Retarder medium is a clear medium that makes your paint dry more slowly. This is the brush-on one, not the airbrush one (although it probably works fine in airbrushes). If you've never used it, you only need to add a little bit to your paint, not a lot. It's useful in certain situations, like wet blending 2 colors together in a smooth transition over a large area (since acrylic paint normally dries in seconds) that you might need a minute or two for. As you know, you can trust Vallejo to make top quality painting products.

I like to do paint by numbers kits, the kind that are 16x20 and come with a bunch of small pots of acrylic paint. The paint tends to get pretty goopy after a few hours of being open. Someone recommended this retarder to help it stay supple. It works great. Usually I just put a drop or two into the pot and stir with a toothpick. Sometimes, I put it on the canvas itself and paint over it. (I do that when I'm blending colors on the canvas and want more time to get it right.) It was a cheap little bottle and has lasted me forever. Good value for money.

I am an airbrush newbie and the Vallejo paints were not flowing like I expected when I needed a thicker coat for free hand dappled cammo or just painting. Another two brands of paint worked great w my Model Master Airbrush so it was the Vallejo paint.This plus thinner gives good coverage and doesn't clog the airbrush.If you want dappled cammo, forget freehand, use a template, and work around the paint.

I added some to a 4oz dropper bottle with distilled water, and it works great. My paint stays workable on the figure long enough to do what I need it to. Couldn't be happier.

I added a couple drops to a small spray bottle of water and found it to be a great help to keep my paints wet for a longer period of time. Nothing is worse that mixing the perfect color and then having it dry out before you are done using it. This solves that problem.

there are no included directions for proper use by thinning... requires either experience or experimentation. I've neither, yet... making this a mostly unhelpful review.

Good retarder to slow down the acrylic paint from drying quickly. Using it concentrated can cause acrylic paint to be more runny and can make the paint coverage be more transparent. Mixed 50/50 with water and customized it to your liking that way by adding a drop each time.

Nice medium to use for wet blending or to restore paints that have beginning to dry out.

I use this to reduce drying time when I am painting warhammer 40k models. It makes dry or wet blending much easier. It makes getting the paint on thin and smooth easier. It makes fine edge highlighting possible, as the paint does not dry on the tiny brush before you can apply it.If you use too much you reach a point where the paint will not cure at all. I have found I can use more of it than the instructions say. I do keep careful records of paint mixes, measuring how much I have added using a milligram balance.

Great for making homemade airbrush thinner.
