These work much better than my cardboard ones. They do not fully prevent twisting together but keep stuff straight most of the time. You do not have to unwind these consciously as they sort of unwind themselves as you go. They do need a bit of length to the thread though as they tend to fall off at the end and so may be unsuitable for those only making short braids like bracelets
