So fun, but be warned, they can live a long time!
It's such a weird concept that you add water to the dried eggs and they come alive! But it works! Sea monkeys are not as cute as the diagrams on the packaging, in fact they're kinda gross. Like see-through, backwards shrimp! But they're fun to watch as they grow. A lot died and in the end I was left with 2, that seemed to go on and on to the point that I got a bit bored and wanted them to die. You don't really think of them as pets, whether that's right or wrong. I don't know if they feel or have emotions but even still I couldn't bring myself to pour them away so I had the last 2 for about 6 months!!! Good fun for kids, I enjoyed reading up on their history. Just bear in mind, you end up with the "aquarium" and nothing in it. If you use an old drinks bottle or something and buy the eggs, food and water purifier separetely then it's a cheaper option.

You need patience!
This is a nice idea for kids, though you do need patience. Even though we got the water the exact temperature and followed the instructions it did take quite a few days for the little critters to appear. At first they are the size of a dot, but soon grow bigger. You only need to feed them a minute amount of the food once a week, or even less, or the water will go cloudy. You need to put it on a windowsill as they actually eat any alge that forms naturally in the water. We have had our going about 3 months now and there are only 4 of the 'monkeys' swimming around, sometimes there are more, then it seems to go back down to 4 again! Of course my daughter has mainly lost interest now, typical, so it is up to me to keep an eye on them. I would have rated it higher but I thought the aquarium itself is a bit small (4" x 3.5") and it needed something ornamental in it to give a bit of variety to their lives. The picture shows some green leaves but there are no plants supplied. We will have to look into perhaps getting them something a bit bigger to live in with an aquarium plant.

amazing!
They took a bit longer to hatch than it said but once it hatched there was loads of them and I think they keep having babies because I keep seeing new tiny ones! The food lasts for ages!

Nearly gave up hope!
Bought these as an extra gift for my daughters birthday. followed instructions, used bottled water and emptied the contents into the tank. We had almost given up hope 2 weeks into waiting, but then I noticed the smallest (pin head size) little things darting around at the bottom of the little tank, a week later we must have 30 plus, all different sizes. Not sure how big they grow, but maybe a larger tank required later on. Please be patient with these and don't give up too soon. The weather has been cold, so I think taken a little longer, we now have a heat wave and we appear to be getting more (due to the different sizes). I don't know how many eggs we had to start with, but we sure have a tank full of sea monkeys now!

Sea Monkeys Ocean Zoo
I bought this for a bit of a laugh shall we say and really just to see if they actually work. I stuck to the book and unfortunately nothing happened for me what so ever! I'm not going to start and slater this product however I did find it very disappointing (Waste of £12). Thats not to say if you go ahead and buy it that the same thing is going to happen to you as others say it worked for them and was great fun etc etc.All in all its down to you.... What do you decide? Its your money :-)

confusing experience.
Did everything that it said on the pack, waited days & days. Then they were born! they were doing great swimming around all day & eating. Then they suddenly just vanished....few days later more came back. The same thing happened again several weeks later so i gave in. Was great while it lasted.

Great gift for my 5 year old
This was like magic for my 5 year old. We followed the instructions and patiently waited for eggs to hatch. Luckily I didn't get impatient and pour the water away after a few days because it took a full 8 days to see the first tiny sea monkey swimming around. Once they were all hatched and grew a bit my daughter loved watching them swim, somersault, play feed and...breed! We very quickly had literally twenty or thirty of them within a few weeks. She enjoyed feeding them and aerating the water (blowing through a straw into the water to give them oxygen). The only problem is once the food runs out you need to order more sachets. Would be nice if this kit came with a decent sized amount of food to see you through.

Birthday present gone wrong!
I bought this for someone's birthday as a huge surprise -he's been trying to get me to buy sea monkeys for about 2 years now so I wanted this to be a brilliant present. The package arrived with the container wrapped in plastic and the food, purifier and eggs in separate packets.Followed the instructions to the letter - however the water purifier has crystallised and obviously did nothing in the water. The birthday boy has had sea monkeys before and knew that something was wrong with it, but we carried on just to try our luck. The eggs took a very long time to hatch - we were on the verge of tipping them down the sink and cutting our losses, when 1 single little sea monkey hatched. We egged on the others to do the same, and in the end after almost 2 weeks we had 2 sea monkeys. They lived about a day and a half each.We decided to try again with a different company, with much much better results this time around. Just about managed to save a disappointed boy's birthday present, but it would have been nice if I hadn't have had to.
