''Disney Movie's Brought To Life''
We have the original 1977 Disney version of Pete's Dragon which we all love, (and how couldn't you?) with such a good cast including the great Mickey Rooney with Shelley Winters, Red Buttons, Helen Reddy and Jim Dale to name just a few. So when the 2016 Movie came out My wife and I were a little sceptical to say the least. We were wrong to be so as it turns out because this remake is every bit as good and dare I say it was even better than the first. This remake has stunning special effects and is not a musical like the first. This movie centres around a very young boy being looked after by a mystical (green fury) Dragon as a direct of him being orphaned due to a fatal car crash killing his parents. I can't say too much because it would spoil it for those who have yet to see this film. The film really picks up some six years later when Pete (now aged ten) is discovered living wild in the forest seemingly all alone. This film has been underrated in my opinion, and is easily every bit as good as many other Disney remade movies, such as...101 Dalmatians' (with Glenn Close), 'Maleficent' (with Angelina Jolie), 'Jack The Giant Slayer' (with Nicholas Hoult), 'Snow White And The Huntsman' (with Kristen Stewart), 'Alice In Wonderland' (with Johnny Depp), 'Cinderella' (with Lily James) and the more recently released 'Jungle Book' (with Ben Kingsley and Bill Murray) and of course the long awaited 'Beauty And The Beast' (with Emma Watson).I have also mentioned the Disney films above in case anyone wants to add them to their collection, just like I have. In case anyone is interested, there is one other upcoming film that should be mentioned, that being, 'Pocahontas' (with Jessica biel). I can't wait for that one to come out. There has also been some notices on the Disney Site mentioning the live action remake of 'The Little Mermaid and Dumbo' in the near future... Back to Pete's Dragon (remember that?), just go out and buy it... I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Liked it. But beware - bring some tissues for the tear jerker moments
When I was young I watched Pete’s Dragon on Betamax rentals, I found it a curious, mildly entertaining musical. Later I kind of started to appreciate the early 70’ colour tones, some of the songs and the animated dragon more. This new Pete’s Dragon movie is interestingly set in the mid 1980’s and gives a slightly different twist at the original story. And I must say I find those Disney ’remakes’ the strongest that add a twist or provide more background like the glorious Malficient rather than straight real life copies like Alice in Wonderland and Junglebook. After, Robert Redford’s narrative introduction you’ll get to know Pete, a young boy whose parents are killed in a car accident. He finds a Dragon as a substitute but needs a family as well. The villians, a group of loggers, aren't that evil but somehow decide to hunt down the dragon, probably for the sake of an exciting story line. Even so, the movie is a wonderful family-friendly blend of adventure and emotion. Children of ages will adore the movie and story line that has a beautiful message of friendship, faith, family and hope. In my view the movie has all the elements of the original, but delivers it better. We bought the Blu ray version, that does proper justice to the excellent cinematography and the lifelike CGI animation of the dragon Elliot.

Heart-warming family film for all ages
Love this film!! I'm all for the fast-paced, action-packed, humour-filled kids films that seem to be released almost weekly these days - we've got a bluray collection that seems to be taking over the house. But....I absolutely love the slower pace and slightly nostalgic feel of this fabulous, warm, visually impressive and beautifully acted film. The acting of the young boy and girl in this film is great. There's no over-acting, it all seems very natural and unforced. Bryce Dallas Howard brings a real empathy and warmth to her role and the rest of the adult cast was great too. Nice cameo from Robert Redford. It's the story of a young boy who loses his parents in a car accident on a deserted stretch of road within a forest region. He ends up wandering around amongst the trees, far from civilisation, and is found by Elliot the dragon. Elliot protects him and the two become friends, family in fact. Fast forward 10 years and a forest ranger stumbles across him and tries to unravel the mystery of how and why he ended up living in the forest. The dynamic between Pete and his dragon is lovely. It's portrayed beautifully, and the filmmakers have done a great job of conveying Elliot's emotions through facial expressions and how he interacts with Pete. Add to the mix a guy who wants to trap Elliot for a bit of fame and glory, and you have the necessary drama to add another layer of interest to the film. With beautiful scenery, a heart-warming timeless story about love, friendship and the meaning of family, this is a great film to settle in and watch with your kids. Enjoy.

Great family movie with stunning visuals
My 8 year old son thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Unlike other Disney films it is not overly slushy or sad and had a feel good vibe throughout the movie. The dragon is visual perfection and looks completely real, lifelike and loveable, he even turns bright green when he is loved, how cute! I haven't seen the original movie so I cannot compare to that one but I found this thoroughly entertaining but even moreso for children to watch as I feel the storyline isn't quite enough to captivate an adult but for a child it's easy to follow, exciting and you really feel for the dragon but without it being upsetting or difficult to watch, I mean it's not nice for a kids movie to make children cry and this one doesn't as it has a happy ending and a feeling of hope and love throughout.
