Excellent prog-heavy post-rock
Excellent prog-heavy post-rock. Hard to compare to anything else (for me anyway). Wikipedia quotes a review which described them as "Soundgarden, Tool, Black Sabbath, Oceansize and Pink Floyd taking copious amounts of mind-altering substances and venturing on a trip through time and space (to another dimension), and back again." and says "their music is characterised by guitarist Sel Balamir's effect pedals, Matt Brobin's complex drumming, extended heavy sections, atmospheric compositions and philosophical lyrics." All sounds about right to me.I started with their 2017 album and rapidly bought up the entire back catalogue! This (their first) album and The Octopus are my favourites, though there isn't a bad one in there.

A grand mixing of alternative & gloomy prog rock
Amplifiers eponymous debut is a fine example of modern rock with a slightly retro feel.It is an album composed of a single mood. Melodic but downbeat with most of the tracks delivered in mid-tempo with a bass heavy, slightly fuzzy, feedbacky sound.More of a stoner groove rather than full on rock (foot-tapping and swaying rather than vigorous headbanging) and occupying a middle ground somewhere between Pearl Jam's Ten, Soundgarden's Superunknown and Tool's Lateralus. Despite these exhalted comparisons and the fact that Conspiracy, Panzer, One Great Summer and the opener Motorhead are all very good songs, the album does just lack that killer track (hence the 4 stars rather than 5) .My only real issue is with the extended intros and outros that appear on a few of the songs. It's the kind of over-indulgence that is ok when you are in the mood, but I think it will begin to irritate me after a while.None the less, this is a very accomplished and confident debut and I recommend that you give it a spin.

Under-rated excellent band
This is fine stirring music but not for the easy-listening clan. This a fine album and captured their sound at the time - quite heavy.Fans argue but I think that this and Echo Street (their latest) capture theirsound the best. Why they aren't more famous is a mystery

Great Debut
I thoroughly enjoyed this CD. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in modern rock/prog. To all those who already know Amplifier's work, take a listen to Monster Magnet who have a similar feel.

Very Strong debut album
I heard of this group on a discussion forum so I thought I would chance a tenner and buy the album. I put it on and my first impressions were so so mainly perhaps because I was listening to it in my office whilst working. I did think well maybe there is something here, so I decided to put it in my car's auto-changer and I was blown away by the group's sound and I was astonished by the sound 3 people in a group could make. Although of different genres it was like hearing the Jam in the 1970's and been astonished by the wall of sound they laid down. But this is a different genre and it was like hearing a 3 man Pink Floyd or Yes with emphasis on the former. In fact my favourite track on this album "One Great Summer" is very Floydish.Definitely worth a listen And I expect further great things from this band
