Great Aid for School - KS2 and above
My KS2 child found this really easy to operate - the display is clear and the keys well labelled. It has sufficient vocab that it should last many years. The games may amuse and educate a younger child and the crossword function is useful, as it allows them to enter parts of a complicated word to narrow the word choice. Our local school is permitting its use for normal classwork. Still believe that we should teach children to use big dictionaries and encyclopedia. Recommended. You might want to consider more expensive model below for older children.Franklin DMQ 570 Pocket Collins Dictionary and Thesaurus

Helps with crossword frustration
Very fast delivery from Amazon. Initial impressions; a neat little unit with many options for vocabulary. I bought it for help with crossword puzzles. I try to be independent as far as possible but always one or two clues that frustrate. Enter as many letters as possible and use ? for the blanks. Usually comes up with the right choices. Cheating, maybe. Only the same as a companion next to you sharing the puzzle! Obviously not so good for cryptic clues. The Franklin is small, pocket sized and seems to be fairly durable plastic in construction. Battery change via a a small screw door access at the back. I can imagine the battery lasting a very long time. Seems a fine buy to me.

Easy to use aid for spelling
I bought this for my son to help with spelling. He types in the word as he thinks it’s spelt and it suggests the word he wants correctly spelt. Clever little device and cheaper than I anticipated.

Franklin SPQ109 Collins Pocket Speller.
What a fantastic little gem! I have suffered from word blindness all my life. Even though l received good grades in English. I remember painstakingly ploughing through my pocket spelling book. A gift from my teacher many years ago. I use spellcheck online but not every site provides this. Or it will give you a misspelled option. Or American spelling. I can write a word and it looks correct then reading back what l have written much later, the mistakes jump out from the page. Like a magic book from Harry Potter. Tonge sticking out and thumb to nose , taunting me as if they have their own sadistic sence of satisfaction. My friends know me well but never the less. I still feel a sense of embarrassment. "No more!!"... I cry . I can type in a word into this little gadget. spelled the way l see it. The little machine gives me the correct spelling. It is in English diction as well. It's size is no larger than a mobile phone. So easy to fit into your pocket or bag. Very slimline. It looks like the picture portrays. Very lightweight. Easy to press, springy keys. l would say for money it is excellent value. I only wish that this had been around when l was at school. It is a good idea for children who struggle with spelling. No apps to search for, which will not correct misspelled words. Or having to use a mobile phone to find a word, which you have to input correctly in the first place. A bit like having Satalite navigation. Now that's another story. Well worth a purchase for the dislexic! Also for bad spellers.

Franklin SPQ109 - Great Performer
Upgrade from Franklin CWR-108 needed. Fortunately received this, (Franklin SPQ-109), as a Christmas gift. This product is easy to use. Excellent anagram solver. When doing crosswords it's an excellent all round performer. Fast performer, nice keyboard, and a good clear display, so highly recommended.

Not as good as the old one!
I consider myself fairly well read but I have never seen half the words that this checker suggests, having said that the correct word is usually in there somewhere, so it works fairly well, just longer lists to go through. The main con is the size, it replaces an older Franklin spell checker which was twice the size of this one and was easier to see and use; as I get older, print gets smaller! or so it seems and buttons and switches seem harder to use with arthritic fingers, so the small size and tiny lid make it harder to use and not as good as the old one.

confidence
I bought this for a dear friend in her 40's. She was deprived of schooling and although I got her reading she lacks the confidence to write even the simplest shopping list. I have always struggled with spelling, just one of those things, but a good education helped me to see that, in many cases of day to day writing, I either have it correct anyway or it really does not matter all that much. This little spell checker has given her the confidence to start using pen and paper as a regular thing in her life. I am delighted to see how it has helped her. Not that I have been able to check out all the other functions of the Speller as it was whisked away and goes with her at all times!!A wonderful little thing that fits in anywhere but seems to be worth it's weight in gold!!!

It’s smaller than I expected but works wonderfully.
My husband uses it mainly for Crosswords and it’s to replace the one he’s had for many years. It’s smaller than his his previous one but is easy to read and easy to use.
