Minor disaster from crazy gizmo
It's a clever idea but it is too cute by half. Normally I try to avoid gimmicky tools or kitchen appliances. But this time I was stuck. I was trying to mount a wall bracket to hold my big new flat screen TV. It's the top of the line 65" model. I have it sitting on a big table but I live in a earth quake zone. Even a little shake and my thousand dollar TV will go over onto the floor. I want to bolt it to the wall studs.The kit I bought has hex head big screws to screw it to the studs. But I have arthritis so instead of manually screwing the heavy metal frame in while holding it up with my left hand and using a socket wrench in my right, I decided to use my electric drill with a nut driver. That's exactly what that tool is for. But the screw is a 1/2 inch and no one seems to make that size nut driver. So I sent away for this gizmo. It acts as a universal nut driver.It works. The little hex pins will grip a whole range of sizes and it gripped my lag screws with the half inch heads. But I must not have placed the screw head in the exact middle of the gizmo. When I drove it in it twisted and grabbed the screw off center. It was then jammed in and I had a big heavy steel frame stuck high on my wall that I couldn't screw in or get out. I finally beat it apart with a hammer.This thing will do what it says but it is easy to jam and make a bigger problem. I'm just glad the hammer worked. I was afraid I would have to cut it off with a grinder.
