Punches above its weight!
I love this pen! Solid, a perfect weight, feels excellent in hand (I do not post my pens). It’s a big, slight chonk of a pen that feels substantial. The engraving on the barrel feels really cool. It writes very smoothly (M nib, in this case). My only complaint is that the nib is a NAIL: no feedback whatsoever (which could be a win for someone else). Awesome value, great pen.

Excellent pen for the price! Not quite as advertised though..
Fantastic pen for the price. I have been doing fountain pens for years, and this pen, at this price, is really hard to beat, it writes and behaves, and even looks like a pen 2 or 3x it's price. Very happy with that. The one part that bugs me, and I was very curious about this, was the grip that is advertised as being rubber...well, mine is not rubber, but rather a typical hard plastic. I was looking forward to the additional grip of a rubber grip/section, but mine was a disappointment in that regard. Otherwise, highly recommended pen!

Wow
I already have a standard Black Forest Hongdian pen, and like it very much. This one I like even more. I expect it will have the same outstanding reliability as the other Hondian pens I have. This one is a real winner. A great writer, very comfortable. Nice balance for my somewhat large hands. Attractive but modest, understated appearance. Great value. The nib performance and the feel on the paper is outstanding. If you want a pen that works as a fountain pen should, you will be happy with this pen.

My favorite Hongdian pen
This is probably my favorite pen by Hongdian. Weighty, slightly bigger than the 1861, beautiful, and the nibs for these are very smooth. I have two of the stainless steel 1861's for red & blue markups and this one for all my notes/drawings I need black ink for - makes for a cool trio when looking for a set due to the very similar designs. Highly recommend.

Favorite fountain pen
The fine tip nib andbrass body are so nice to hold and write with. This thing has had months of daily use and can support pigment based inks with little to no clogging issues. the cap posts very well and is also brass. The threads hold up to repeated fidgeting and tightening with no galling, the black paint has worn off the threads but I don't mind that as long as they remain functional. This pen has sustained weeks of heavy field use with no complaints and I am beyond satisfied.

Make sure of the model number if you want extra nibs.
Good pen that writes well.

Way too thick, wet, and feathery
Hongdian Black Forest Max <F>Very disappointed with this pen. It has a rubberized grip, which I don’t love. I like to move my pen and the rubber makes it “stick” in your hand. It’s thicker than I think it needs to be. I also don’t love the quarter-turn screw-on cap. About the only good thing about this pen is that it’s reasonable when posted. By comparison, the “regular” version of the Black Forest pen is WAY too long when posted. This is about the only advantage of the Max over the regular. How does it write? Horribly. See image attached. For a fine nib pen, it is ridiculously thick. Ink comes out very wet. Once on the paper, it feathers and bleeds so badly that some words like the word “Forest” are almost unreadable. For my test, I used Leuchtturm1917 80gsm paper with the same Diamine ink (in different colors).I love the “regular” Black Forest pen. I bought the Max hoping for a slight bump in quality and looks, plus the titanium tip seemed nice. While it moves across the page nicely, ink flow is a huge issue. As I said above, the only advantage of the Max over the regular is cap posting is way better.I gave the regular Black Forest 4 stars (-1 star for posting and a bit of scratchiness on the page) and the Max 1 star. It’s that bad.
