Definitive, phenomenal, AJ Styles DVD!
These days, AJ Styles is competing in the WWE. So far, so phenomenal, having had a stellar run as WWE Champion, feuding with the likes of John Cena and generally regarded as the Wrestler of 2016.Of course, lifelong fans of the man will know (and fondly remember) that it was his run in Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling that put his name on the wrestling map. From 2002 to 2014, AJ Styles devoted his life to TNA, helping the promotion to grow into the outstanding, innovative entity it would become. It's strange that TNA would wait until Styles made his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble to release the definitive Styles DVD...but better late than never! This four-disc DVD set features 12 hours of AJ's work from TNA; 35 MATCHES in total against a who's-who of wrestling! Granted, there are a few tedious ones to sit through - namely against Jeff Jarrett, Booker T and Sabu - but the majority are such thrilling, revolutionary classics against the likes of Kurt Angle, Abyss, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Sting, Kazarian and Petey Williams (among others) in a variety of exciting formats; three-ways, tag-bouts, X-Division matches, title affairs, as well as the awe-inspiring Ultimate X. Along the way, fans will behold AJ's amazing journey from his TNA debut at their first-ever show, to Bound for Glory 2013 (where he would leave the company shortly after).Due to AJ having long departed the company he helped make, there are no new interviews...and no special features of any kind. But these aren't necessary. The sheer content of the DVD is impressive enough, and the context is pretty clear. On the whole, this is truly the best-ever DVD release from TNA Home Video. Essential for all wrestling fans, and definitive proof of just how phenomenal AJ Styles' contributions were to TNA and to wrestling as a whole.

A wonderful collection of matches from AJ Styles' time in TNA
A wonderful collection of matches from AJ Styles' time in TNA. The triple threat match is there from Unbreakable 2005 (vs Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe) which is hard to get hold of otherwise. Worth buying the set for that match alone!

Phenomenal
This four disc DVD contains all the best matches that AJ Styles had during his time in TNA/Impact Wrestling. It's a compilation that just plays the matches one after another, a total of 35 matches. The DVD starts off with a full music video of the band that perform AJ's theme music, it's a bit weird as there's very little footage of AJ in it and it's mainly just the band members dancing round.AJ Styles, Low Ki and Jerry Lynn vs. The Flying Elvises - This first match was also the first ever TNA match. It was a really fast paced match to show off the X Division and what that style was all about. It lasted a decent amount of time for a showcase match and did a good job of showing off what we could expect from the division. There were plenty of innovative moves and some good near-falls, building to a decisive finish. AJ wasn't on show for a lot of it but it was his debut so still feels relevant.AJ Styles vs. Low Ki vs. Psicosis vs. Jerry Lynn - This match was to crown the first ever X Division Champion. It had a weird match structure, it was a series of one on one matches and when somone was beaten another opponent would join the match. The loser wasn't eliminated though as you needed to be defeated twice to actually be eliminated so you just had to wait on the outside for it to be your turn again. It was a strange idea really. An interesting one though and, like the first match, it was a good match to show what the X Division had in store. The action was fast paced, all the little individual matches were good and it all got a good amount of time. A weird concept but a fun match.AJ Styles and D'Lo Brown vs. CM Punk and Jason Cross - This looked like a pretty random match to me. It was a fun back and forth tag match. I certainly wouldn't say it was one of AJ's best and was probably just here so they could advertise CM Punk being on the DVD. It was still an enjoyable little match though with a good, clean finish.AJ Styles vs. Raven vs. Jeff Jarrett - This was for the World Heavyweight Championship. This was a very good match. It was an interesting combination of styles that worked quite well. All the action was good and it had some really good near-falls as the match went on. There was some interference part way through that completely took out one of the competitors for the rest of the match, this felt unnecessary but didn't hurt the action. There was more interference which caused the finish which I didn't feel was necessary and tainted the finish a bit. Overall it was a very good match though.AJ Styles vs. Jeff Jarrett - This was also for the World Heavyweight Championship, inside a steel cage. It was another very good, competitive match. It didn't have 'escape the cage' rules which I liked. It was just a normal match but preventing interference. The action was all good and there were some good near-falls. The pace was good and it lasted a good amount of time. There was almost some interference but thankfully it didn't pay off and we got a good, decisive finish.AJ Styles vs. Jeff Hardy - This was Jeff Hardy's TNA debut as he came out as the mystery challenger for AJ Styles' X Division Championship. They were having a pretty good, back and forth match. They wrestled with a fast pace with their blend of in-ring wrestling and more high flying offence. It was ruined in the end as two men came and got involved which really hurt the match but it was becoming a good debut up until that point. More relevant to Jeff than Styles but nevermind.AJ Styles vs. Kid Kash - This was a good, competitive Street Fight. they spent very little time in the ring as they were mainly brawling around the arena. Despite the brawling style they still managed to show off their athleticism along the way. The most memorable moment involved them taking each other over the edge of a balcony. They do eventually get into the ring and it becomes more about wrestling back and forth, with some good reversals and near-falls while they built to a good, decisive finish.AJ Styles vs. Chris Sabin vs. Petey Williams - This comes from Final Resolution 2005 and was an Ultimate X match. It was a really good, fast-paced match full of action. There were plenty of impressive and high risk moves, making full use of the Ultimate X stipulation and structure. They were pretty dangerous looking but very visually impressive. They also created a lot of impressive three-person spots which were a lot of fun. It lasted a good amount of time and had a really good finish. Such an exciting match.AJ Styles vs. Abyss - This was a Six Sides of Steel Cage match from Lockdown 2005. It was a great match. It started off as a brawl around the ring and they took some time to actually get into the cage. Abyss was dominant with his power and brutality while AJ tried to use his speed and athleticism to stay in the match. There were some good reversals from AJ and plenty of brutality from Abyss, including him slamming the cage door into Styles' head, busting him open, choking him with a chain and introducing thumbtacks into the cage. There were some good near-falls, plenty of violence and a good, strong finish. Some great action and one of the best underdog vs. violent monster matches I've ever seen.AJ Styles vs. Jeff Jarrett - This World Championship match comes from Hard Justice 2005. Tito Ortiz was the guest official. It was a good back and forth match. The action was good and had some good psychology when Jarrett targeted AJ's leg. Tito for the most part just kept Jarrett in line and stopped him cheating but he did come into play more towards the end. There were some good counters and convincing near-falls on the way to a decisive finish. An enjoyable main event.AJ Styles vs. Sean Waltman - From No Surrender 2005, AJ faces off against the former X-Pac with Jerry Lynn as the guest referee. It's a good, competitive match full of fast paced action. There were good reversals and both men used some good high-risk offence. It gets a good amount of time, has some convincing near-falls and builds to a strong, decisive finish. Lynn does get involved towards the end which was a shame but he stayed out of it the rest of the time which was for the best. An entertaining and competitive match.AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels - This is known as being arguably the best match in TNA history, it was the main event of Unbreakable 2005 for the X Division Championship. It manages to live up to it's hype. All the action is fantastic. They completely avoid the 'two in, one out' formula a lot of Triple Threat matches have by having all three constantly involved in the action. There are plenty of creative three-person spots, reversals and near-falls. The match lasts plenty of time and doesn't stop building in excitement until the final bell. It keeps up a fast pace and has a good, strong finish. I don't think it's the best match in TNA history, but it's certainly one of them.AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels - From Bound For Glory 2005, this was a 30 minute Ironman match for the X Division Championship. It was another great match. The action was amazing from start to finish. It had a good pace throughout, so many back and forth reversals and plenty of near-falls. They didn't just get a bunch of falls that they wouldn't normally get in a regular match, which I really liked. The thirty minutes just flew by and they built the excitement really well up to the final fall. Great stuff.AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels vs. America's Most Wanted - This was for the Tag Team Championship and comes from Slammiversary 2006. It was a very good back and forth tag match. Both teams worked together really well with plenty of tag team tactics. Gail Kim tried to interfere but AJ and Daniels had someone who came out to neutralise her so it didn't really affect the match. There were plenty of near-falls and reversals, keeping things exciting, and it built to a good, clean finish.AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels vs. LAX - This was an Ultimate X match for the Tag Team Championship from No Surrender 2006. It was another great match. There were plenty of the usual high-spots you get in Ultimate X matches. Maybe a few less than usual but they made up for that with the exciting teamwork. The action was non-stop and lasted a good amount of time. It built well to a really strong and memorable finish. A really enjoyable and exciting match.AJ Styles and Tyson Tomko vs Ron Killings and Consequences Creed - This comes from Bound For Glory 2007 and was for the Tag Team Championship. Creed would go on to become Xavier Woods. It was another good match. I wasn't expecting as much from this one but they all delivered a really entertaining match that kept up a fast pace, had lots going on and lasted, what felt like, the right amount of time. There were some good near-falls, the only interference backfired which meant it didn't negatively affect the match and we got a good, decisive finish.AJ Styles vs. Tiger Mask - This one comes from Impact. it was a good little back and forth match with a fast pace and enjoyable action. It was kept pretty short but what we got while it lasted was entertaining. It had some good reversals, high-flying action and a decisive result. It was too short to be anything better than just good but I enjoyed watching it.AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle - This comes from the 2008 Slammiversary show. It was another great match. It didn't have the high-spots many of the matches before it had, but that was alright because they didn't need them. It was just a really enjoyable back and forth wrestling match. They went for a good amount of time with a load of great reversals and near-falls. There was a bit of interference around the finish, which was a shame but at least we still got a decision. The action here was fantastic, as you'd probably expect from these two.AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle - This Last Man Standing match comes from Hard Justice 2008. It was another great match. They had to win a fall before the referee would count to ten here, that actually worked really well for them as it prevented lots of waiting around for someone to get up, as the ten count only happened after something that could have been a finish anyway, and even then there were plenty of near-falls so there wasn't much waiting around. Something else I really liked was that just because this was a match without rules, that didn't mean they needed to have a match full of weapons, it was really just a really aggressive wrestling match. With some wrestlers that would be a disappointment but, with how good these guys are, it made the match better here that they didn't resort to that. It was just fantastic wrestling action that built up to a really good finish. Amazing.AJ Styles vs. Booker T - From Destination X, this was for the Legend's title. It was a very good back and forth match. The action stayed entertaining and had a good pace. There were good reversals and some strong near-falls towards the end. It had a good amount of time and built to a good, decisive finish. It was a bit of a step down from the last few matches but I'd still say it's one of Booker T's greatest matches.AJ Styles vs. Chris Sabin - This was one of a series of qualifying matches for a Championship match at No Surrender. It was a really good, competitive match with a good pace and enjoyable action. It didn't get as much time as it would on pay-per-view but it still had a decent amount of time to make an entertaining and competitive match. There were plenty of reversals and it led to a decisive finish.AJ Styles vs. Douglas Williams - This was a finals match from the same tournament, later that same show. It's another really good, competitive match. It was given a good amount of time for a TV match and it kept up an exciting pace. All the action was strong with lots of reversals and some good near-falls as it built to another strong and decisive finish. It felt different from the Sabin match but was just as good.AJ Styles vs. Sting vs. Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez vs. Kurt Angle - From No Surrender 2009, this five-way match was for the World Championship. This was originally a four-way but Hernandez cashed in his 'not really money in the bank, honest' briefcase to enter himself into things. I wasn't a fan of his inclusion but thankfully he just did his thing and then got taken out of the match. It was an overall enjoyable match full of non-stop action. The rest of the match saw Morgan and Angle teaming up, Sting and AJ working together to counter them but also being willing to fight each other. There were some good near-falls as they built to a decisive finish. A very enjoyable match.AJ Styles vs. Sting - This was the World Championship match from Bound For Glory. It was another good back and forth match. Respect was a big part of the story here, with both men being very respectful and wanting to settle it in the ring. The action was all really good and there were plenty of good reversals. It built to a good, decisive finish, although it did feel a little bit sudden. The match did get a good amount of time, I just wasn't expecting it to end where it did. That's not a bad thing though, it was a very good match.AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels - This rematch of the most famous match in TNA history was for the World title and comes from Turning Point 2009. It was another great match, just like the first one. I'd say it ranks just below their first three-way but they're very close in quality while still being different in the action. The action never stopped with so many near-falls as they built towards a good, strong finish. An absolutely fantastic match full of exciting action.DISC 3 FINISHES HERE, FOR SPACE REASONS THE CONTENTS OF DISC 4 WILL BE REVIEWED IN THE COMMENTS
