Simply Amazing
Like many others i switched from multi bladed cartridges to DE razors after reading lots of reviews on how good a shave you get with a single bladed razor. I use to get horrible razor burn with cartridge razors so thought i would switch. At first i brought a cheap and cheerful Wilkinson DE razor to see if this type of shaving suited my skin and beard type. With a DE its almost like learning how to shave again. Anyway, found this way of shaving so much better than with cartridge razors so decided to splash out on a decent item. Read loads and loads of reviews and watched lots of videos on all the different razors out there from Edwin Jagger, Muhle, Parker and everything in between. Decided after about 6 months of looking to buy the Merkur Progress. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!. I thought i was getting a good shave with my Wilkinson Classic DE. Well i get an unbelievably good shave with this little beauty. You can have it as mild or aggressive as you like it. This razor has 10 settings, 1-5 then around again for +5-10. The finish on this is amazing, nice smooth chrome with a lovely knurled handle so its not too slippery. I love the bakerlite looking adjuster on the end, almost 1930's retro. Ever so easy to adjust and as long as you put the head back together with the marks on the side lined up, there is no issue with blade alignment. So far the best blade for me has been the feather, Wilkinson blades are okay but Derby blades i find are the worst for me. I use Aqueous cream as a shaving cream simply because its the best thing i have found that offers me an irritation free shave. Its so cheap as well. I f you buy this razor you will not be disappointed.

... a very high quality product for which I would love it to have a longer grip/handle
It is a very high quality product for which I would love it to have a longer grip/handle.I'm new in this safety razor world and I'm still cutting myself a bit too much but things I noticed after 5 shaves:-The handle is quite short for my hands, I would liked it more with a couple cm extra (small hands actually)-The 5 stops blade adjustment makes a huge difference-The Razor is indeed head heavy-The top head is a bit off-centered by less than a tenth of a mm but I'm sure it makes a difference cut wise. (however, my technique is far from being optimal)-Quality standard is very good, the Press stamp/form (lathe) and assembly of the pieces cannot be faultedOverall if it was not for the handle being short (for me) and the off-centered top plate, I would have fallen on a bullseye.

Fantastic
Brilliant razor. I've got a shocking combination of hard beard and sensitive skin. After finally giving up on Gillette cartridge razors I tried the Merkur 34C Heavy Duty for a few months, but still got nicks and occasional razor burn. However, I was much impressed with the razor compared to the Gillette, so I decided to see how the Progress fared. In short it's a revelation, the ability to change the settings to shave the more sensitive areas around my neck has saved me from razor burn since purchase, and I'm getting far fewer and much less severe nicks -even with Feather blades. Highly recommended.

Awesome razor
I'vebeen wet shaving for around five years now so I have a good idea of what makes a good razor. My usual daily shaver is a Muhle R89, however I also have a Merkur 39C and a Muhle R41 which I sometimes use. SInce I got the Progress I haven't thought at all about using any of my other razors as I'm getting a shave with this razor that is far superior to any I have gotten with my other razors.I must state here that I never get a "BBS" shave as I don't shave against the grain, so the best I get is a very, very close shave. And out of all the close shaves I've had, the Progress has produced the least irritation with the smoothest finish. The construction of this razor is also impressive. Whilst initially I was surprised by how small the razor is, I haven't found it to present any problems at all. My razor also aligns correctly, I know some people have an issue with the alignment on their Progress's but mine is perfect.Overall, I highly recommend this razor, for the price it really can't be beat.

The new go-to
This is my 7th DE razor and now is my favourite. Gives a perfect shave on setting number 4 with an Astra SP blade every time.Good for the beginner and hardened DE enthusiast. Typical solid Merkur design. Will last a lifetime no doubt.
