Sharp blades and easy to use
For someone with arthritis this spring set up in the product means it’s effective without too much strain on the hands. The blades are sharp and I find it great for doing edges, pruning not too thick plants etc. good product.

Like giving your garden a haircut
I wanted something I could use with one hand, so I could still use my other hand to grab and pull the foliage I was trimming into the best place for a sure cut. Also, I have quite a lot of bushy growth that requires me to lean over things to get to it. Again, having my other hand free to steady myself was a must. These shears are basically a giant pair of scissors. They are great for trimming back leafy bushes with soft, fleshy stalks and branches, but I do have to give more woody stems two or three squeezes for the blades to cut right through. I have other lopper-type cutters for that, so these were bought purely to clip back less woody shrubs and grassy areas.I found it very easy to twist the scissor blades round to the angle I wanted them. There's no mechanism for allowing this...you just grip the blades and give them a hard twist and they click round. However, when cutting through stronger stems, I needed to keep the blades at the more traditional scissor-like angle. I guess my brain/hands/fingers have spent too many years getting used to manipulating scissors for the perfect cut. Grass and other weak foliage is fine at any angle...and others might find the other angles perfectly fine. This is just my preference.Keeping the blades closed when not in use is easy. There's a small metal button that you press after closing them. It stays pushed in until you next put your fingers through the handles and squeeze. Then the button pops out and the scissors are ready for use again. It's not the most secure mechanism, but we should all keep tools like this away from little hands anyway, right? So, for me, it's just an easy way to keep them closed for better storage. With that in mind, if you're gardening with little ones around, you will have to keep your eyes on these shears. Even after you've closed and locked the blades, the unlock mechanism could easily be triggered if a curious child picked them up and tried to mimic the cutting action. The fact they look a lot like huge scissors, might make them a little more tempting. Again, this is my opinion, which comes from having four children and remembering how 'helpful' they could be in the garden.Don't let that put you off, though..because, for my purposes this locking system is perfect and I prefer it. No fuss, no bother, easy to operate...and no clips or levers to rust, seize up, or fall off and get lost. I just thought it was worth mentioning. For the price, you're getting a good pair of clippers you can grab and get snipping with whenever the mood takes you. I'm very glad I bought them.

Quality shears
A good, strong and sturdy pair of grass shears - a quality feel. The grip is good and large and the shears have a long rotating blade. These are extremely sharp too - they cut well and with little effort - ideal for small jobs around the garden. An exceedingly good price from Amazon (at present half the rrp) for a big brand name with a good guarantee. The safety lock feels secure and is easy to safely apply - and equally easy to safely release. They come packed on a card with a plastic shield to the top half covering the blade. This is simply packing and useless for storage (once the plastic tie is cut to release the shears from the card they simply fall out of the plastic top) and I would have liked to have had some sort of firm slip case in which to safely store them, a sturdy plastic type would have done the job. That apart these are a good buy for a quality item.

Dodgy Safety Catch
Works perfectly as small shears for lawn edges and so on. However, the lock for keeping the blades together when not in use does not work at all, is completely useless or faulty. Could be a major concern for people with young children who could very easily seriously hurt themselves on the sharp blades and the pointed blade tips.Actually I would be surprised the product meets UK safety standards. Having said that I find the product easy to use for my purposes.
