Perfect for swapping out the DVD drive in my Dell Poweredge R710 with an SSD
In the Dell Poweredge R710 server, there are no connectors from the power supply, like molex connectors or SATA power connectors. This makes it difficult to add an SSD drive using the SATA cable (and not adding it to the SAS backplane). However, there is already power going to the Slimline DVD drive which I have no intention of using. I was able to use this cable adapter to connect that into an SSD and now it's working great!

One trick pony…
…but it’s a really good trick. This lets you hook up a second SATA drive to laptops that only have one direct Sata port AND have a cd/dvd drive. Why is this important, you say, when you can buy a USB to Sata adapter? Because the usb adapters often won’t let the pc see the external drive’s identity.Want to use Samsung’s absolute killer cloning software? You can’t, if the software can’t identify the external drive. This lets you temporarily give that drive a direct SATA connection while you clone it, then put the drive in place of the original HDD.Again, it’s really only got one real use, but OH BOY does it solve a very real issue.

Plastic ends are fragile
On the second use the plastic on the full sata end cracked down a seam. I was able to super glue it back, but it still should have lasted longer than two uses.

worked great
Used this to attach a regular HD instead of a CD drive in my laptop.I put the HD drive in the CD drive slot so I can pull it out and reattach the CD drive when needed.Works great with this mini SATA to SATA adapter.

Worked Great to convert a DVD slot on a Dell server to a Boot SSD Drive
Almost needed for converting any older Dell for Vmware or another server where you want to have the Operating System on another Drive instead of the built in hot swappable drives and controller.

There’s a male to female and a female to male version. Make sure you don’t do what I did. Buy the right one!

doesn't work, but it's probably a fault on my end
i bought this to hook a 2.5 inch ssd to my laptop's optical drive bay, with the bay having a slimline (15-pin) sata and the drive having a standard (22-pin) sata. the drive is the correct 5V so everything is electrically compatible, yet when i hook it up my computer behaves as if nothing is there. i've tried other drives and still no dice. important to note, however, that this is most likely a problem with my laptop and not the adapter, since i've used a voltmeter on the adapter and it shows the adapter is transmitting power along at least one of the three required contacts. i can't quite tell which ones work because the prongs of my voltmeter are just a tad too big to fit in the female end. i'll update this review once i find out more.

Does what it says
Perfect little adapter. Omly problem I have with this is that the package has 2 cables, but I only needed one. So now I have an extra adaptor I won't ever use
