This is a terrific book for the neophyte fan of Oz and for diehard fans as well
This is a wonderful book, printed in 2014, for the neophyte Oz fan and for the fan like me who has to read everything written about his favorite film. This 96 page book has beautiful, sharp photos not only from the film but many other photos of other projects the cast and crew were involved with. Also, the book contains wonderful sections on Oz such as: Oz as a political allegory, on the director Victor Fleming, on the composers Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, on the tv broadcast history with guest hosts Red Skelton, Dick Van Dyke, Richard Boone, and Danny Kaye, on earlier film versions and on the novel's history, on more recent Oz projects like Wicked and The Witches of Oz, on all of L. Frank Baum's fourteen Oz books, on the seven differences from the novel and the film, and much more. This book gives a spotlight on all the actors except for Clara Blandick as Aunt Em and Charlie Grapewin as Uncle Henry. This is the book's only big disappointment. I can not believe that these two important Oz actors were left out, but otherwise this book is a real delight. I recommend it highly.
