GREAT for putting behind my back (if not for sitting on)
LOVE it for my lower back, not so good (for me) for sitting on. But if I'd known how great it is, for leaning on or for propping up a foot or a leg, I'd still want one.I have issues, though, that make it difficult for me to sit directly planted, straight -- I deal with this by shifting around slightly. Sitting on the GQ Sit Upon, if I shift, it just goes with me -- the pressure in the center doesn't get relieved. So, I guess I need a donut pillow instead.Anyway, though, it is the PERFECT thing for putting behind my back, and even better, for propping up a leg when I'm draped in some way over my furniture in my small living space. It won't slide away or move, as would a regular pillow.

DON'T AIR IT UP!!!
I love this product! I bought it to relieve my aching back when I was sewing. One evening, my husband was on a business conference call. Unfortunately, it lasted for hours. His back was starting to hurt while staring at his computer. I reminded him about this product I'd recently purchased. He was not interested. About an hour later, he caves in and asks me where it was. He tried it and was EXTREMELY impressed. He bought himself one the very next day. I had to laugh at one of the reviews I read that said the person had received it and it didn't have enough air in it, so they aired it up. NOOOOO! You've completely missed the point. Whether you sit on it or put it behind your back, the point of not having it FULL of air is for it to work with your body's natural movements. Sitting on it requires the body to "work" more, thus less aches from sitting in one very uncomfortable position. Do NOT air this product up until you've at least tried it the way it comes.

Comfortable and Great as a Chair Lift!
I like my Sit Upon cushion well enough and have used it for about a month now. I bought mine mostly to help add height to myself, so I'm not sitting so low at my treadle machine (I'm only 4'9"). I also use it to lift me higher in my car seat. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I wish it were a bit bigger in size for added comfort and to help me sit balanced on it a little easier. I don't consider myself to have a large fanny and there's a tendency to wobble on it if you don't center yourself on it just right. It's easy to become off-balanced causing you to lean off to the side....it's like sitting on a very deflated ball. But then again maybe it's supposed to make you balance yourself on it in order for you to reap it's intended benefits. Still, it's not hard to get yourself seated on it just right. It lifts me great, but because I'm so short, my feet don't rest on the floor so the backs of my thighs rest on the edge of my chair. After sitting on the Sit Upon for a few hours, my legs will sometimes go to sleep on me, which is why I wish the cushion were a little bigger than it is. I know my review here probably sounds more negative, but I really couldn't do without my cushion now and I can sit comfortable enough on it. All in all, this works pretty well for what I wanted it for, but this cushion may not be for everyone.

Not for everyone
Circumference not large enough to be comfortable. It might work for a petite person b not so great for larger individuals. One benefit however is that the thickness raised my seating to a more comfortable height. I will probably gift this to another sexist or donate it.

This little cushion took me a while to get accustomed ...
This little cushion took me a while to get accustomed to. But I believe it worked. It kept my back and backside from becoming sore. You have to remember to keep it positioned at the BACK of the seat or chair that you are sitting on. Your thighs should be resting on the chair itself. This may sound strange, and it took me a while to do it right, but it works. It is worth trying if you are sitting too long. It also lifts me up a little - I am on the short side.

Won't work. Here's why...
I've tried to use the Gypsy Quilter for the past month. Two problems. First, I am 5'1." If you're that height or shorter, you KNOW that chairs, sofas, car seats, etc. are not made for us. Your feet don't touch the floor and you can't keep your knees level with your butt bones--and that will always strain your back! So know that the GQ raises your chair seat 2" further above the floor. So if you're short framed like me, you won't ever find a comfortable position atop the GQ. Why? Ergonomics tells us that butt bones and knees need to be level for a any seat to feel comfortable. If knees are below your butt bones the position will stress muscles and cause low back pain. THAT is exactly what happened to me and several other reviewers here. Second problem, the wobble. I am a fit person for my age of 66 (yoga, backpacking, gym...for years) with a strong core. But out of the box, even I had a tough time finding a balance point that does NOT further strain my lower back muscles. The brain wants sitting to feel balanced, and those back muscles struggle to find it. Bottom line: your back muscles get hurt--and its painful! Bad discs, weak muscles, too much weight, even being "too short"--whatever--is not the problem! So I inflated the GQ. That didn't work either because the surface is not curved enough! Looking at the GQ from the side, it should have a slight dome--and it doesn't. If it did, you'd find your balance point more easily. And that means you wouldn't be so wobbly. Reviewers here who found the GQ comfy were likely taller, more amply framed than me, and could tolerate sitting 2" further above the floor. But as designed and advertised here in Amazon, this Gypsy Quilter doesn't do its job. I returned it. Sadly, too. I wanted it to work!

Good support
Although this is made to be sat upon, we use it behind our backs when sitting at our dining room table with larger chairs. It give our backs the support we need.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong ...
It feels like you're trying to balance on a bar. It is a cushion, but it is not stable. I chose this for my office chair at work. I discovered two things. ONE, it's comfortable, once you find the non-wobble spot. TWO, it requires you to use really good posture, and maybe that's what I'm lacking. Regardless, it is comfortable, but I won't buy another one for other chairs. Love the purple, and the name, "sit upon."
