Great fountain pen for the price. See Pics
Bought the medium nib in black crocodile. Great budget-medium fountain pen. Writes well out of the box. The one I purchased (April 2019) comes with a universal ink cartridge. no converter is included and the tin case has no viewing window like I have seen with some.Build: whilst it's not the most flashy fountain pen I would consider this the Volkswagen of the fountain pen world. It gets the job done and it gets the job done well. you won't be disappointed. The body is all aluminium, clip is sturdy and there's no chance of it coming unstuck in a pocket. The lid clips on tightly and it seats itself on the barrel of the pen securely when writing. The grip is plastic, this could have been finished a bit better because the seams are still visible from manufacturing. The plastic grips in my opinion are easier to grip than the metal grips on other fountain pens.Writing quality: pushed the universal ink cartridge into the fountain pen and ink started flowing after about 30 seconds. The ink flow is nice and smooth with no skips. When putting the nib to the paper the ink starts to run instantly. The fountain pen writes not too wet so if you're using lower quality paper don't worry about the ink smearing and smudging. some reviews say the Japanese medium nib writes like the European fine.from my experience with parkas and Franklin Covey pens I would say this right in a fine to medium line. Out-of-the-box this pen writes very smoothly and after some time writing it should get even better, that's the joy of fountain pens. for around £17 you can't go wrong with this fountain pen. It writes very well even compared to more expensive brands such as the Parker sonnet.thanks again pilot for another reliable and well made pen.

Excellent value
It's increasingly rare that I ever write anymore - mostly greeting card messages - but on those rare occasions, it's actually a treat to use a proper fountain pen. Not only does the note look nice, but there's an added pleasure in writing it. I had been gifted a set of pens many years ago, which are upwards of £100 each. Somehow, I've managed to misplace them and I wasn't able to justify replacing them. However, the Pilot MR2 is an incredible writing instrument which produces excellent results. Of course, there is a difference between this and something like a Parker Sonnet Fountain Pen - Black Lacquer Chrome Trim with Custom Engraving - mainly in the weight of the pen. While the Pilot is very lightweight, it is nonetheless well balanced, comfortable to hold for long periods, and has a better than good medium nib.Even if the MR2 cost twice the asking price, it wouldn't be unreasonable. At under £15 including a handy carry case, the Pilot is fantastic value.

Great budget pen
Lovely fountain pen, easy to hold with some good weight, much prefer a heavier pen over a lighter one personally. The crocodile print isn't too garish, so it blends well. Build quality is good.My only gripe is that the cap isn't very stable when posted (on the end of the pen while writing) and so has a tendency to slip off.But for under £20? A great budget pen, especially if you don't like the plastic feel of a Lamy

Excellent as a first fountain pen. Great for taking out and about .
This pen looks classy, writes extremely well and does not skip, even when not used for a long time. The ink flow is very good. Please note that the MR2 range is made for the European market and it does use international ink cartridges. This range does not come with a converter in the UK.As a Japanese make, I would advise those new to fountain pens to go for the medium nib. Even this can be so slightly scratchy, but I find it a rather enjoyable pen to write with. This pen is heavier than the Lamy Safari, which would be it's close rival. So if you want to take copious notes, this is not the pen to use. However, it is excellent as a pen to carry about, for writing short notes, such as one or two pages at a time, at most. For heavy note taking get yourself a Lamy Safari, which in my opinion, does not look as good, and only takes proprietary ink cartridges. The often overlooked Parker Jotter fountain pen with medium nib, would also be a better contender for writing longer notes. However, if you want a pen that looks good, writes without skipping and can clip securely into your pocket, then this is it. You can also buy a converter for it.Excellent buy for those new to fountain pens.

Affordable Work horse Ink Pen.
I have been a great fan of Japanese and German Ink Pens (economy class : ) ), they are well built, no fuss pens. And Pilot brand is no different. I became a fan of Pilot 78G the moment i started writing with it. Same was the case with the new Pilot Metropolitan/MR2 as it is called now. It is as good as 78g, because the section, Feed and the Nib are common between the 2 pens. If you like heavy metal finished pens go for MR, or else 78G is just great, if you can get your hands on it.I like its metallic blue finish, i thought I wont like the leopard band, but its cool. The MR take std international cartridges (which i think are poorly built, one cartridge and one converter leaked), which i think is a good feature as most of us would even have a converter, but i would have prefered the Pilot proprietary, as i had some cartridges lying around, and i had been using just one by refilling it for last 6-7 without any problems (no leaks no fuss).I have collected quite a few number of pens, but this is one of the few go to pens for daily use.
