Necessary Evils ?
I have watched a considerable number of dark and harrowing dramas over the year's but, rarely anything as dark and harrowing as this first episode of season 7 of The Walking Dead. In gruesome detail, two of our favourite characters are bludgeoned to death, as we stare, helplessly mesmerized by the sheer horror of it all.As a Christian who values humanity, l found myself in a moral quandary as l witnessed such brutally immoral material, yet, l was gripped, gripped every bit as much as the metaphorical rabbit, confronted by the hypnotic grip of its predator. Yet, as a long time fan of The Walking Dead l continued to watch, grasped by a concern for the plight of characters l identified with, thoroughly hooked, thoroughly shocked. And so, why l do l give this a 5 ?The Walking Dead is quality adult drama. There is nothing gratuitous here.We cannot just close our eyes when confronted by evil depravity; we cannot just turn away from horrors of the world and hope that such things do not happen, in the REAL WORLD.Congratulations to all those involved in forcing us to confront the evils of the world and, by doing so, make us contemplate the meaning of depravity that we rarely encounter in our cocooned world's.

It doesn't get any better than this...braaaainz!
Zombies gore and action, If you don't like these three things in a TV series then you best stay well clear of this one. The fantastic TV series the walking dead is all about the end of civilisation and the people that are unlucky enough to survive, as a virus turns people (dead people) into the living dead. These baby's don't just want brains but the tasty flesh off your every day human. Kids, adults and seniors all want a piece of you, literally! If you love zombies and gore your going to go orgasmic watching this. Better than a lot of horror films, i was generally shocked at some of the scenes which is ALWAYS a great compliment to the producers, and the story line is to die for. :P I would have givien it 10 stars if i could.

More hits than misses, but feels like a slog at times.
This season gets a lot of mixed reviews - and it's understandable why. But what's needed is an eye on the "longer game".Let me start by making it clear I am a huge Walking Dead fan. I re-watched Seasons 1-6 with my wife to get her into it and enjoyed it all again. Having said that, I try not to be some kind of "fanboy" - there ARE some disappointments with this season. To be honest I would rather have given it 3.5 than a 4, but that might be a bit harsh. It IS the slowest-paced season; after the gruesome season opening, the dynamic has undergone a HUGE shift. Negan is probably the most powerful and dangerous adversary our group have come up against - with an army of psychopaths behind him.So yes, Rick is forced to swallow his pride just to survive - not to mention the impact of the gruesome introduction to Negan himself, and the resulting loss to our group (for long-term fans, it's a shocking episode).Over the course of the season we start to see some hope emerge, and the old Rick return. We meet new allies and new foes, we see some double-crossing and we lose a few more friends (but then that's nothing new). We've seen the format before but on shorter timescales; they hit a bad patch, things get rough, it looks like they could be done for, but they turn it around and then when revenge is taken - for example, in the church with the cannibals way back - there's a sense of elation to it. Frustratingly, it feels like the real conclusion is waiting for us in Season 8, but at least we don't have the same cliffhanger that we had at the end of Season 6.All the signs from Season 8 are promising; no spoilers, but the cast and crew interviews all point to more action and more fun. I'm hoping I'm right, but it sounds like we had to go through the slog of a lot of Season 7 to really enjoy what happens in Season 8. If it follows the comics - sorry, graphic novels - it should be good.

Blown Away!
Blown away by the explosive, gut-wrenching start as some main characters exited the new series. I suppose the script writers felt that they were all being viewed as 'safe' and that this might have removed some of the realism of the series. Well, they sorted that out (nobody is safe) and in that sense, it makes the series more gritty and realistic. Sad to see some old favourites go, but it makes the series even more of a 'must view' as it ramps up the emotional charge and viewers want to see justice for those who have been murdered in such a horrific way. I won't spoil it by saying who dies, but I am really sorry that they chose them as I really liked them. Addictive viewing!

Utterly utterly brilliant. If you can't stand the violence remember that ...
Utterly utterly brilliant. If you can't stand the violence remember that this is make-believe and that far worse has and is happening in real life - and in any case I'd say that the Carol/Lizzie story was harder to watch and more profoundly disturbing than this. This couldn't have worked with a tame, off-screen "Oh look he killed so-and-so" - it had to be graphic. No one will truly *enjoy* this (and should probably be locked up if they do!). The characters and story only work in TWD if they take the audience with them in a very real sense. We are meant to feel drained and hopeless. To me Negan could have driven the final nail home but he's too clever (and needy) for that... I guess we'll see but I for one am looking forward to finding out.
