A bit disappointed
I had been expecting it to be more sturdy like the old ones we had at school..so I was disappointed..but it works not bad for the price

To the point.
I found this sharpener suitable for my uses. I keep it in my garage to keep pencils sharp for marking up wood. It has one sharpening barrel not two like more expensive models. The plastic case is of medium sturdiness, and the plastic holdfast bracket is not much use. I have it attached to a shelf and need to hold the top to keep it still while sharpening. Most significant is the quality of the sharpened point, it is very good, long and tapered to a fine point. The crank stops resisting/cutting when the pencil is sharpened and the pencil can be removed. Upward of 20 pencils it still works well. If you can live with the shortcomings listed here, for the price and with careful usage you should be fine. Treat the item with respect and your pencils will write wonders.

Had a snap, but worked it out. Literally.
I was delighted when I started using this sharpener today, as I need sharp leads for my fine work, including botanical illustrations. The points were tremendous.I had read the 1 * review so was very careful. But a lead snapped after 18 karismacolor pencils, and a graphite one.I fiddled, then came back to these reviews. I am so glad I did as i found the solution in the comments section of the 1 * when I read read Ann Swan's advice. I had tried and failed, until then to open the blade section. I knew it could come out as there is a photo in her book showing this. It is very firm, but can be done.Once inside the barrel I could not see how I would gouge out the stuck lead, until I saw it peaking over the top. So pushed it down, and all was well.I will carry on with this, and keep you up to date id there are any other issues. While I was in 'despair' my eye wandered to other spiral sharpeners, which offered different blade settings. But I will stick with this for the moment. I imagine it can cope with most thrown at it, and if I want shorter leads I can use my old sharpeners. This is for the finest points after all.

Sturdy and effective sharpener
I hadn't used a pencil sharpener of this kind in decades, but blunt pencils are always around the house and the small sharpeners lost somewhere, so it seemed a good time to revisit. The sharpener is robustly built. Although a clamp is supplied, it is fiddly and not terribly effective so I dispensed with it, as it isn't strictly needed.Hard lead pencils are sharpened into the status of dangerous weapons, while softer crayons gain a less sharp point. The shavings are easily cleared by sliding out the clear plastic tray they are deposited in.Overall, it is a good sharpener, and at a good price, so I recommend it.N.B. I received the original one to test as a Vine reviewer. Perhaps the best testimony is that we have bought a further two as Christmas presents for grandchildren.
