Laurie BernsteinPenny the Penguin has PKU

We brought the book for our PKUer who had Laurie as a dietitian. She loves being able to identify herself with Penny the Penguin. Laurie has a wonderful knack of communicating with young children as they learn to treat their PKU as they grow,her writing this book shows her work with inborn metabolic disorders shows her love and passion. I would recommend this book to any one who is associated with PKU or another inborn metabolic disorder.

As a teacher and a mom of a 4 yo with PKU, I found this book to be educational and appealing. It's short book and it has coloring pages at the end. If you have a youngster with PKU, I highly recommend this book!

Got what I paid for

The book has another book at the beginning....... weird...... not one that I wanted and so its realy annoying to have to search through the book to find the story I want.

Written in language that children can understand and read to others. It also can help children without PKU understand why there classmates and friend cannot eat food with protein.

Helpful book.

Not what I thought it would be. A very short story and a bit everywhere. Still looking for a better kids book for my son who has PKU.

There is more information about PKU in the product description and the back cover of the book, than in the story. Penny's story is more along the lines of everyone is unique rather than giving details about living with PKU for the child to understand. There are far better PKU children's books out there.

It’s probably the only book for kids with PKU and discusses the diet restrictions through the character Penny.Unfortunately I probably wouldn’t pay the asking price for this book due to the overall quality of the story and illustrations. It honestly looks like it was created in Microsoft word, PowerPoint, and/or publisher.
