My hairdresser recommended that I buy this shampoo when I was trying to grow my hair for my wedding last year. I think its really important with Nioxin that you use the correct number for your hair type and you do your research before you purchase, because its not cheap, and I think the results vary depending on your hair type and what benefits you are looking for. My hair isn’t thin, but I was looking for it to grow more rapidly. I do know people who use Nioxin because their hair is thinning, and they want it to grow thicker rather than faster, and I believe it is also good for that too. The principal as far as I can gather is the same, it cleanses the hair follicle to allow improved growth. My hairdresser gave me a few pieces of advice, I was washing and straightening my hair every day, which she told me to stop doing, I now wash my hair on every 2nd/3rd day, to use the Nioxin once a week, and stop using heat treatment so much on my hair. Because I implemented all of these things at once I guess it is hard to tell if it is once single thing, or a combination of them all which helped but I have definitely seen a difference. I went from black hair to blonde hair within the space of a few months, and I have had minimal breakage and my hair has grown really quickly. I find the shampoo makes your hair feel really really “clean”, and if I leave it on too long I do find it can be quite drying. I try to only use it on the roots of my hair rather than the ends. I think that’s the idea, however it is for that reason that I think I wouldn’t recommend use more than once a week, which is why I think my hairdresser recommended that. Love the menthol conditioner also. There are a few products on the market which claim to give the same results, I have not tried them all, but I believe this is the most effective. I would definitely recommend Nioxin, give it a try for a few months and I think you’ll see a difference.

I've waited 3 months from purchase to give this a chance to work. And it really does.I had been suffering from excess diffuse hair loss for a few months, losing loads when brushing, choking the plughole when washing my hair...it was really getting to me. I had particularly thin hair at my temples, to the point you could see my scalp.My GP assured me it was just a symptom of my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as I'd had a bad flare up the month before. She suggested I try baby shampoo and stop tying my hair up.Anyway, browsing the Lightning Deals one day I came across Nioxin System 3 starter kit, coincidentally the correct one for my fine dyed hair. To make it go further, if my hair is particularly greasy or has product on it I wash it with a cheaper shampoo first, then use the Nioxin once the hair is clean. I'm treating it as a treatment, not a shampoo. The shampoo smells minty and tingles ever so slightly on the scalp. As does the conditioner, it's a bit like the feeling in your mouth when eating an extra string mint. Not unpleasant at all.The two work together and gave me silky soft tangle free hair. Once towel dry I added the lotion, which is less lotion and more a watery liquid in a pump bottle. There are no instructions on how much to use, so I just direct the pump at various points all over the scalp then sort of rub it in.The results have been nothing short of incredible. My hair is no longer falling out, now I am just losing the amount I had before. Whether this is due to the phase of my CFS passing or not I cannot say, but my hair has easily grown almost an inch in three months. This is not an exaggeration! Compliments I've had from those who know me have said that my hair is lustrous, thick and glossy. It's never looked so good, and I really wish I had taken pictures of before and after so I could post them with this review. The previously half bald areas at my temples are now showing new shirt growth which is covering the whole area. I'm delighted. And there's still loads in the bottle as I only wash my hair 2-3 times per week.I've now bought the intensive conditioner too for use once a week, although this system leaves the hair so soft I'm not sure I really need it.I'll be buying another set as soon as I need it, but I'm hoping I see it in Lightning Deals before then.If you're unsure, and have thinning dyed hair, do try this. I have the hair of my teens back - thick, shiny and soft. Give it a go!

Ok so bought this around 4 weeks ago and have been using it around 3-4 times a week... i cant wash my hair every day as the amount of breakage i have in the bath or while brushing my hair and styling afterwards is really scary.. so resorted to using dry shampoo some days to preserve what hair i have left. I can honestly say the first few times of using this i noticed a real difference. even after the first shampoo in the bath it made my hair feel much thicker and denser.. i think this was because it dried it out so much, but after some conditioner it really softened and i noticed less breakage. However i am sad to see that yesterday its away back as bad as ever. washed my hair with it yesterday and for the first time since using it i noticed excess shedding and excess breakage. Now today my hair feels thinner than it ever has before. from the front of my hairline right over the top to the crown its so thin. I feel the excess shedding and breakage yesterday is to blame because it wasnt this bad last week. I am now so disappointed as i really thought i was getting somewhere, even if others didnt really notice a difference i defo felt a difference which boosted my confidence a little..I am now stuck in limbo wondering if i dare to keep using it in the hope that its just a one off and it will get better, or do i stop using it completely incase the breakage gets worse. Im a 33 year old female with long blonde hair and the thought of losing it makes me so depressed. I know people think its vain but my hair has always meant so much to me. it has always been really fine, but i always had loads of it and was always in really good condition. I now have around 40% of my hair left from what it originally is and within the next month or 2 im certain ill be close to bald. It makes me look older than my years and it makes me so upset that health professions just tell you to get on with it as its not life threatening..This was a last resort as i cant afford surgery or even decent extensions... sorry for rambling on.. has anyone else noticed more breakage and shedding after using a few weeks? and if so did u stop using it or continue? any advice really appreciated xx
