The Mini-lathe (Workshop Practice): No. 43 (Workshop Practice Series)

A really useful primer
I hadn't any workshop experience with turning and wanted to be able to make things for my Austin Seven, so I bought a Mini-lathe. Then I found I had no-one to turn to for advice, so I bought this book. So far I can't fault it - it makes you aware that lathes are potentially dangerous, tells you how to clean the glop off the lathe when you unpack it, explains the different tool shapes and their use, and gives a short course in making things. The last is not necessarily immediately useful, but careful study of it will help you find possible ways to adapt the advice to the sort of work you want to do. A very, very useful little book indeed!

This is a good little book with lots of tips on how to get a small lathe up and running. Clear concise text that explains everything from unpacking to small projects. Very good

A useful book
Some of this can be found on the internet but having a book has helped.

Definitely not for the beginner
I've only had a quick scan and what I've seen it is and looks a great read with a lot of stuff for the intermediate. Also, there are a lot of interesting photos that complement each topic. I've viewed some comments regarding their clarity I find nonsensical, for the price of this book, I am more than satisfied!

Good advice, poor photos
Some useful advice and tips for the new lathe owner (me) but he photographs are black and white and not very good.

Excellent little book
An excellent little book which concentrates on a single lathe model, the ARC Euro Trade C3 Mini Lathe. Contains some good starter projects like a dividing attachment, guided centre punch and filing rest. Does assume a basic knowledge of the layout of a lathe which may confuse the newcomer.

Describes the lathe thoroughly
Well written and informative. Perhaps the presentation of the book, e.g. the photos, could be up-dated to the standard one expects for books these days - however the content, etc., is excellent.
