Misfits: Series 2 [DVD]

A great series returned!
A friend of mine recommended that I should watch the hit, BAFTA winning E4 series 'Misfits', so I purchased the first season on DVD, and was hooked into it immediately, virtually watching each of the six episodes over two days. I came on here to buy the second series, and the third and fourth. If you enjoyed the first set of episodes, I have no hesitation in recommending the next seven, although chances are you won't need much persuasion. In what is one of the most original television programmes of it's kind that I've had the pleasure to see, the show centres around a group of teenagers who are carrying out some community service. They are all portrayed by an incredibly good cast of young talent, and whilst every teen is very different to the other, all of them are likeable in their own ways. There's the shy but very sharp Simon (Iwan Rheon), the hard-as-nails chav Kelly (Lauren Socha), the one-time sporting hero Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), party-loving Alisha (Antonia Thomas), and my favourite, the cocky, sarcastic, and frankly hilarious Nathan (Robert Sheehan). After being caught in a freak-storm that took place early on in the first episode of series one, these 'misfits' suddenly find themselves with strange superpowers. Although none of these guys were dull in the first place, they all have interesting back stories and hidden depths, shy Simon especially, but these added powers give the show it's edge. It results in not only it sporting having some excellent quirky British humour, but also allows it to enter fairly creepy territory, and supernatural happenings, intrigue, and suspense occur in it's wake.Series two opens where the first left off, with the 'immortal' Nathan lying awake in his coffin, and following the chaos and snuffing out of two probation workers, there's a new one on board. An interesting twist in the story of Simon also takes place, as well as a surprising family revelation for Nathan.First-class writing, storytelling and acting are fundamental in making 'Misfits' such quality television. There's a lot of sex references (more so in this series than the first) and bad language that earns it's 18 certificate, but come on, that's life! The DVD contains the complete seven episodes (including the Christmas special) of season two, broadcast originally on E4 in 2010, as well as ' The making of Misfits' and 'Shooting Misfits' featurettes, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and crew, and eleven, short online films (all 'Misfits' related, such as what Nathan did whilst still in his coffin).

COARSE, VIOLENT AND HILARIOUS
More sharply written, in-your-face fare - it forever extending the boundaries. The Infamous Five are still on community service, their new supervisor (replacing the two killed) amusingly humourless and sardonic. This strong second season sees developments. Those supernatural powers, result of the lightning strike, have also affected others. Amongst those around to cause problems are seriously scary shapeshifter Lucy and one who thinks he is in a computer game, points awarded for everyone he tortures and destroys.Who is the five's masked guardian angel - athletically scaling walls, leaping from roof to roof, repeatedly arriving just in time to protect them from grief? (His identity is the season's biggest surprise.)Many highlights and much to startle. Especially effective are the sudden changes of mood (as with what follows a rare tender moment in the Christmas Special). Unexpectedly moving is Nathan's reconciliation with his dad (Dexter Fletcher) and how it came about.Events in this colour-drained surreal world prove strangely addictive, all the cast making the most of their roles. Robert Sheehan is great as gobby, frenetic Nathan. Iwan Rheon as meek Simon increasingly impresses. Seven episodes (including the Christmas one). Interesting behind the scenes extras (Lauren Socha sounding exactly like her character Kelly). Not for the faint hearted and easily offended. This comedy-with-attitude has a cult following, Season 3 eagerly awaited.

Even better than Season 1
As I am in Australia, I can order UK dvds without worrying about zones. BONUS!!!!!!Misfits was a TV show that came out of nowhere. It's fresh, smart, sassy, sexy and original. The actors in Misfits are amazing. They are young and so creative. Each one making their character distinctively - their own.Misfits Season 2 picks up straight after Season 1. Your questions from Season 1 are quickly answered. Like what happened to Nathan? This is answered in the only way that you would expect from this show. The hooded stranger is also unveiled. BIG SHOCK !!!Season 2 is quick and the episodes are just so entertaining and fun. As a little added bonus, they have also thrown in a Christmas Special. The Christmas Special is what is making me look forward to Season 3 - what will our unlikely heroes do next??This Season was an emotional ride too. There were sad episodes that pushed our heroes to their limits. All in all, this is a must - if you have Season 1, you must have Season 2. If you don't have season 1 or watched it on telly - do yourself a favour and get the box set - it's well worth it.
