Not sure our old dimplex did smell burny when it was dusty and intermittently particularly if it had been off for some time. That lasted 30 years so not sure if it's anything too serious. However we don't put it on the higher setting and always switch it off at the socket. Obviously if it is a regular problem then you may need to get in touch with touch with Dimplex for advice. **Q: Where are the control switches on the Complex Brayford Stove** A: The switch is on the right hand side of the stove. The stove looks so much better in real life, and the flames look real. I was really surprised at how quickly my living area heated up. And furthermore I was so pleased to hear that the sound is actually just like a humming sound. Not at all loud or intrusive. I can’t express how happy I am with this purchase. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great flame effect *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 5 May 2025* This was bought as a replacement for an older one which had stopped working ( the flame motor) after at least 15 years. I bought a cheap one to start with but it just wasn't the same.This one was on sale for £165 so I had to have it. I can't comment on the heat or thermostat as I don't use it for that.Next day delivery was efficient.The fire itself is quite heavy - not a problem for mee as I don't want to move it about.The optiflame effect is lovely and about as realistic as you can get in a fire at this price level. With just the flame effect on it is silent.The only real difference between this and my older model is that this has LED lights which make it brighter.If I have one complaint it would be the remote control which, quite frankly, is a waste of time!! You need to be right in front of the fire for it to work. I had my previous one plugged into a remote control socket which worked great but you can't do that with this one as the rocker switch on the fire returns to "off" as soon as you release it. Not a game changer for me though I foresee a time when the remote no longer works and I will have to bend down to turn it on manually. However, as there were several positive reviews of this fire on here, I decided to try another one, rather than just have my money back. I have to say, Amazon's return procedure is excellent. All done on line and a courier arrived the following day to collect the original fire.I am really pleased I stuck with this model. As reported by several other people, there is a hum from the motor that runs the optiflame. You notice it when you first put it on, but its not so loud that it becomes uncomfortable. You certainly don't need to turn up the tv or radio to cover it!
