I usually use modelling clay (to sculpt animals or pets). But just came across this.... could / would this suit as an alternative to clay ?

Hi there, I don’t think you will get much detail with this. It is quite lumpy. If you use a mould like I did you get quite a few air holes and Pitt’s. Not like slip clay. If you on the other hand want something like fur and movement I think it would be great. It’s a fun medium to experiment with. Drys hard (white) overnight can be painted. I used silver spray paint it went on well.

How much coverage will one bag of Sculptamold give me?

Sorry I can't give you a definite answer. All I can say is that it goes a long way and it is very very good stuff and easy to work with. Ther are several videos on Youtube which should help you. Some of them even describe how to make your own. I used to use plaster cloth for scenery but it was very messy. Sculptamod is nowhere near as messy. One other thing, when you mix it with water it begins to set quickly so don't hang about! Good luck, Phil

can finished items be left outdoors?

I have only used this item indoors for model railway scenery. However it sets quite hard and firm so could be ok. That said, it is paper Mache based, so just how it would deal with prolonged exposure to rain I can't say.

Does this work with Linka?

I would suggest it would be difficult to use with Linka. Links needs the plaster to be quite runny to fill in the mould details, sculptamould is very thick and fibrous and would not flow as required.
