It seems like a good idea to be able to put on a tripod horizontally and vertically easily but it doesnt come with an L wrench so if you dont have one, it's too loose to stay on camera

This L Bracket is good for vertical shooting if you have the right tripod. The screw attached to this L Bracket has to screw directly into your camera. For my Sony camera, I felt the screw was shorter than I was comfortable with to secure my camera properly. To my knowledge, you need a tripod that you can adjust the top plate to tighten up the grip. If you have a cheaper tripod, you might not be able to use this bracket because you would need to be able to replace the plate solely with this one. If everything fits this is a good affordable option for an L bracket.

I use a fluid head, which doesn't allow shooting vertical, so I ordered this bracket to give myself that option. However, I ordered this by mistake, meaning, I haven't shot vertical for so long that I didn't pay attention to the specs of the release plate, which doesn't fit my head. Although the bracket will fit most cameras, it is only made for 38mm Arca-Swiss heads. But that's not the fault of the product. I should have verified the specs before ordering. I can't use it, but it is well constructed of all metal and would work well for the right applications. If that fits your needs, I highly recommend it.

I tested this in December of 2022 for about a week in various conditions on a pro mirrorless body. I found it to be a very well made aluminum L-bracket. It secured to the camera with the standard 1/4" 20 screw from and had rubber knurling on the edge that presses to the camera helping to prevent slipping. The bottom plate has a spare 1/4-20 attachment point for a strap or other accessory and the vertical plate has 10 1/4-20 attachment points for anything you might need as well as two machine grooves to help with cable strain relief.Great quality for the price and my only negative is the vertical portion of the bracket could be longer to better support larger bodies. That said, if you're using a typical DSLR or mirrorless body that doesn't have the vertical grip this would be an ideal choice and at this price a smart buy.

I've done video for years and just recently started taking portraits. As such I needed something better than my old video rails to mount my DSLR in portrait mode. This works perfectly for that. My only gripe is the bottom plate hole arrangement (which is a common issue I see in many of these L plates). The hole arrandement doesn't lend itself well to mounting the L Bracket with 2 scres in both the X and Y "planes". But one reason I picked this one is that the oversized slots mean I can grab a longer bolt and secure it through the L bracket. Not as ideal as if it had a few more holes, but ultimately more versatile.

For the most part, I really like this L Bracket. It makes changing from landscape to portrait more accurate than a typical ball-head from a tripod mount (albeit not as quick). I do have one single issue with it, which I will get to a bit later in the review. I'll start with the positives. The build quality is great. It's made completely out of aluminum, so it's light yet tough. I fully expect it to handle the weight of whatever device I'll use with it. The size is perfect for my Nikon DSLR as well. It almost feels like it was made specifically for my particular model. The extra 1/4" threads available when in the landscape position is also very nice. It gives me more attachment points for any accessories I might want to use alongside my camera. My one issue with the L Bracket is small, yet kind of important. I'm not a big fan of the 1/4" screw. Most screws that attach to cameras will have a small, folding extension on the head that allows it to be more easily tightened by hand. This one however lacks that feature, so fully securing that screw will always require a coin, or screwdriver, or some form of tool. I plan on keeping the bracket on my camera at all times in order to minimize interaction with the 1/4" screw. Even with that one weakness, I still think its' a solid product. It's a 4/5 from me.
