Just got a new Bike - keen to learn.
I have not ridden a bicycle for over 35 years. Things have changed a lot since I was a kid. Even then, I didn't do any of my Bicycle maintenance, my Grandad did that for me. Having just splashed out of a brand new Bike, I am keen to learn. This book is ideal, cover all of the basics and onto more advanced stuff. Unlike some books, it covers bikes with Disc Breaks. Good clear pictures and loads of easy to understand pictures. SO this book is my new favourite reading companion.Only things I would say, personally I would have like to see a little more details on the odd area, but I feel the essential are cover. Enough to get you started, and you can good the finer details. Would have also been nice to have had some links to online videos to go with the book, but again you can get these online. So why buy the book if you go online. Well, the answer is simple, it published by a trusted source ( Haynes) and is easy to grab resource to keep handy and to learn from. All in one trust place. Recommended.

A Good Overview But Not a Repair Manual
If you want to know how bike components work, then this the book for you. It does contain quite a lot of information on the range of component types - gears, brakes, stems, BBs, etc. When it comes to fixing a problem, there really isn't enough detail. For the work that I've needed to do, I've had a quick read of the section in the book, but got the actual detail from online videos.

Brilliant
This is typical of a Haynes book - well constructed, great pictures, great detail. I am determined to learn how to fix my own bike after dreadful customer service at a well know bike retailer. So bit by bit I studied how my bike fits together and what parts mean and do. I am learning a huge amount and having great pictures helps tremendously. The only thing I thought was odd was some of the chapters appeared back to front, i.e. safety equip etc at the back of the book, rather than the begining didn't make a lot of sense. But minor niggles aside, this is a great book for anyone who wants to learn how to maintain their own bikes.

Very useful book with a few minor drawbacks
Fab update to the series, not super detailed, and at times information is missing for maintenance procedures that has been substituted for an anecdotal opinion from the author, presumably to make the book a more fluid read for all ages. For example, it tells you all about what a starnut does, and the advantages of its use in the Ahead system, even gives you pictures - BUT it doesn't tell you how to install one in your bike. You have to work that (essential) part out on your own, which is not 'complete bicycle maintenance', but 'mostly complete'. Tip: Looking on You tube for 'how to' videos can fill in the gaps for you!Still very interesting, and with common sense, and a little research, you can fill in the gaps yourself.
