Q: hi does this have a terminal for ground wire?

Possibley the small screw above the on switch. Doesn't look big enough to me though. I'm lucky enough to have a ground terminal on the DJ controller that I will be plugging the pre-amp into.

most likely this will amplify your sound going from your vinyl player into your receiver yes, but this one sucks a bit though. it works alright when its powered on, but the power cable is acting a bit funny popping out and if you press it properly in, its too far so that it makes no sound at all. (at least my unit have this issue) what worked better for me is that there is actually made room with a socket for a 9V battery inside this bad boy. don't know why its not explained anywhere. I only unscrewed and opened it to see if i could fix the power cable problem. and to my surprise i saw the battery option reviled before my eyes.

there is space for a 9v battery and the connection is already INSIDE the unit where the battery will fit.

Sorry but it is impossible to answer your question directly as I have no idea how loud you CD is!!! However without the amp my stereo with a magnetic cartridge was very quiet. With the amp installed if performs normally. Sound is good quality with no hum present. Would buy again if I needed to!!! Hope this helps
