Great little gadget which really improved on the outdated manufacturer colour profile for my monitor
I have a Dell S2716DG revision A09 G-Sync Monitor manufactured in July 2018. On the Dell website the only colour profile available for this monitor model is dated 2015. It is of course way out since there have been many panel revisions since then (hence A09). Delivered the monitor was 349cd and 2.34 gamma according to the Spyder5.This Spyder5 is excellent, I particularly found the room light meter on it's top handy. While aiming for sRGB which is not 100% possible with this TN monitor I got it to 98% compliance and 0.01 from 2.20 gamma and spot on 120cd brightness. There's also less banding through greyscale. I used the advanced settings and extended grey tuning function. It did take quite a lot of experimentation and tweaking to get the end result. You can of course use quick calibration, I did try that first and while very good compared to the standard monitor setup it it's not quite good enough with higher brightness and lower gamma results. It is worth spending the time using this package to it's full extent to get a proper result you are happy with.I'm not too bothered about that last 2% as I rarely edit photos and predominantly game anyhow. Colour calibration helps me with editing game textures in Photoshop and making sure they don't look rubbish for everyone else.

Does what it claims
After some 13 years of using digital photography and spending time and hours of frustration getting WYSIWYG when printing, I decided life was too short to go through it all again when I changed printers and yet another set of inks. The Spyder5 Elite has proved it's worth right from the word go. I have found it very easy to use and the results are excellent, especially when using the printers own ink and recommended papers. My next steps are to calibrate my screen using my chosen papers and inks, a process which the Spyder will make much simpler and less time consuming.

my Wacom Cintiq was a disappointment as at 92%
This device has helped my raise my photography to another level. I've used it calibrate a number of monitors. The screen on my Macbook pro needed the least amount of tweaking and got me to 99% of sRGB, my 10 year old LG monitor got to 98%, my Wacom Cintiq was a disappointment as at 92%. What really surprised me most though, was that it was able to get my projector to 92% of sRGB. All in all, this is a great investment for anyone that is looking for good accurate colours from their screen. Takes a while do each screen, and the mode that gives the best result is a little awkward to get too as it's hidden in the preferences. Hence 4 out of 5 stars. If they can make the software easier to get to the mode advanced modes, I'd have given this 5 stars. The software could be fixed in an update.

For Anybody Serious about Colour Work
Have successfully calibrated all of the monitors at work, home, and on the go. I tend to only do colourwork at home when producing photo prints or film editing, and before using the tool I never realised how different all of my monitors were. The software that comes with the Spyder5 Elite takes you through a simple process that lasts about 15 minutes the first time, and then 5-10 minutes every time you need to re-calibrate (you can set this yourself, Datacolor themselves recommend doing this around once a month). The difference between the before/after images sometimes has you questioning as to whether the changes made are beneficial, with one being a cooler image, and the other being a warmer image. But this is because your eyes will only spot the difference between the colours, and I have absolute faith in the colorimeter after seeing a print come out almost identical to the one on the screen, whereas before I would find images would come out too warm, too dark, or too lacking in contrast or saturation.Being able to synchronize different monitors has been a really big positive point of this tool as well, meaning something I produce on my laptop will look almost identical when I drop it on my PC. As for users who have dual, or triple-monitor setups, this will be found useful for getting the colours and brightness to match exactly. The only exception I have found so far is in situations where the monitors use different technologies (i.e. IPS vs LCD), but even then the Spyder5 Elite will take you as close to matching as physically possible. If you're serious about colourwork, or need different monitors to match up, then this is absolutely a necessary piece of equipment you should have sitting on your desk.

I'm a pro TV editor...and this doesn't work!
I'm a pro TV editor and grade (colour match) TV pictures for a living. This device is absolutely overpriced rubbish. It calibrated my two Avid edit suite Dell IPS monitors (side by side) to be that one had a blue cast and one had a yellow cast - same room same conditions same time!!! USB lead way too short to reach too for crying out loud. Won't even SEE my intended purpose HDMI big screen client monitor device connected to PC card output 3!!! Return! Chocolate teapot, >UPDATE< tried it again this morning using 'monitor match' mode (although not sure what the difference is - whites should be white - right?) and it made my right Dell even more yellow but did lose a little blue from the left one. I also can only assume (there's no info) that it sits in between the graphic card output and your monitor and tweaks these levels, so why it cant do that for my 3d output I dont know. Total;ly inconsistent.

Mediocre
After buying a new high end monitor I thought it would be a good idea to buy a colour calibrator so I decided to get the Spyder5ELITE. It takes quite a while to setup and calibrate, and personally I do not think it's worth the time nor money as after the calibration had finished, all it had essentially done was turn down the brightness on my monitor; after checking the colour accuracy and performing some other tests I discovered my monitor's default settings were calibrated better than what this set them to. Needless to say I swiftly sent it back for a refund.
