I purchased this massager after my excellent Homedics PA-100H percussion massager shorted out after over three years of flawless daily service, and I found to my dismay that neither that model nor anything of similar power and features was being made by Homedics any longer. Reading up on the Zen, it sounded like it might be of a similar robust quality for only a little more than my previous device cost. And when I received it, I wasn't disappointed.However, after about a month, while using it one day the sound given off by the motor suddenly changed, like it was shifting down a gear, and it became much less powerful. Tried turning it off and on, giving it a shake, etc, but to no avail, and then it went on to run erratically, switching itself back and forth between various low speeds. Unfortunately at that point it was past Amazon's 30-day limit for returning items. I initially left a 1-star review as a result, but then the manufacturer came to my rescue, kindly supplying me with a replacement (as seen in the comments attached to this review).Hence, the rest of this is a revised review, as of 4th June.So, now supplied with a replacement and in the hopes that what I got originally was just an unfortunate lemon, I'm once again very pleased with the massager. It's more powerful than anything else I've tried in this price range - indeed, some people may find it too powerful if what they are after is a relaxing massage.This does not give a relaxing massage, it gives a very vigorous one, ideal for working those knots out and getting that circulation going. It has two intensity settings, and even the lower one is a good strong pummelling, while the higher one is just plain 'Yikes!'. I tried the high speed on my hubby's leg and he ran off in horror and wouldn't let me near him with it again. So if you need a truly forceful massager, this is the one for you.Some reviewers have complained that the device is too heavy for them, but I'm not finding that a problem, despite having become disabled with a long-term illness that makes me quite weak. It is slightly heavy, as one would expect something with a powerful motor and robust casing to be, but not ridiculously so. I guess your mileage will vary, but I don't find the weight an issue - I actually like that it feels so substantial, not light and flimsy.

Brilliant. I bought this hoping to relieve my constant neck stress which is caused as a result of poor posture and working with computers all day long. I am also diabetic, which will become relevant shortly. it wasn't a decision I took lightly as I thought it was expensive compared to some other similar items here on Amazon. I am a firm believer however, that you get what you pay for and with the possibility of returning it if I wasn't satisfied sealed the deal. There are a few mixed reviews around about this massager that seem to sometimes contradict each other, I guess ultimately its down to personal preference. It does look a little unwieldy when you see it and picking it up it feels top heavy and awkward. However, these are just just aesthetics because as when you turn it on and place it on your skin, it becomes light and easy to maneuver. The handle is comfortable and you can easily hold it at the very end without feeling you are going to drop it. It even has a wrist strap for just that occasion. I find the first speed is comfortable for almost the whole body, but I am overweight so have a fairly good level of insulation. The high speed setting is good for the bigger muscle groups especially on the back and buttocks. If you are on the slim side you might not ever use the high speed. I hope the manufacturer can introduce a variable speed control to make it more usable for more people. Now as a diabetic I take 6 insulin injections a day, and as some will know, injection areas can become painful and lumps and bumps under the skin can develop. After just three days using the massager on these areas the lumps have all gone and I have less sore injection sites and more relaxed muscles. I think my doctor will be very surprised the next time she sees me. I also used it on my feet as I also suffer from neuropathy which is a desensitising of the nerves mainly in the hands and feet. At first it was a little uncomfortable but when you get the technique right it's easy as you have such good control of the unit. Tip - if you are sensitive when using the nipple shaped head, switch over to the other head which has several contact points instead, so the pressure is spread out, lessening the sensitivity. And yes my neck is also so much better. No oils are necessary just dry skin, but would probably be a nicer and more relaxing experience say if you were using it on someone else. Overall this has become one of my best buys from Amazon and I am very happy with it and the results, hence the rather long review. Definitely recommended.
