Came with no instructions or paperwork. Sent it as a gift and the recipient had no idea what it was or who sent it. But after researching was able to use it.

I liked that I can keep track of the level and temp of the Levin. However, There was no silicone Spatula included in the kit.

I've never made sourdough before I was excited to have the opportunity to receive this starter jar for review. Unfortunately it did not come with instructions and the pieces that come with it are not of the highest quality. I can't recommend to beginners.

I am a beginner when it comes to making starter dough and making bread. I am surprised that there were no directions to help guide me through how to use this sourdough starter kit... I wouldn't recommend this to any beginner.

Ordered this kit with some high expectations, have made various types of starters and preferments before without a dedicated container. I wanted a container for long-term sourdough production. Upon opening I looked at all the pieces, checking for accuracy. The glass container is marked correctly and verified the circular temp decal is as well (remove white backing for adhesion). The rubber feeding band is very helpful. The metal lid is of good quality and will seal tightly. The cloth cover with elastic is perfect as well. The spatula has a nice wooden handle but the silicone end is way to flexible and comes off very easily. The other plastic pieces are complete garbage. Although I am a seasoned baker and do not need any, the lack of instructions or starter recipes is ridiculous. This is not a good gift for a novice. Priced poorly.....

I am happy to get this set just as the weather is changing and I'm reviving my starter for Fall/Winter baking. It will look much nicer having this dedicated jar for 'my ongoing science project'- a big improvement from my goopy jar shown in the 2nd photo. I was so excited to give the new jar a wash and transfer my starter right away!One note- there weren't any instructions or starter in the box so this kit is probably best for someone who has already been keeping a sourdough, or else you will need a starter and a book to get started. Also the kit comes in a plain white box with just a small Amazon inventory tag on it so might be confusing if someone were to receive as a gift without explanation.The best things about the kit for me are A) the jar with the measurement markings (I checked and they're accurate) and the marking to use with B) the included stretchy band which is printed with days/times printed on it- very clever for keeping track of when you fed your starter! (I sometimes would mark the date my old jar but usually would forget and have to just guess when it was last fed)I also like the cheesecloth 'bonnet' that's part of the set - I previously just covered it with a paper towel or whatever was handy when I was actively growing my culture prior to baking with it. The included long spatula is handy for stirring clear to the bottom when mixing in new flour and water, also the thermometer disk might be useful but not sure if it's a sticker or you set it on the lid?I don't think it was mentioned in the listing but I also received a long handled sponge cleaning tool- nice thought but it looks really cheap- flimsy and plastic- and sort detracts for the coolness of the rest of the set- but maybe handy for someone with hands bigger than mine.All in all I'm pretty excited about this set.

Finally got around to making my first batch of sourdough bread. This was very helpful.

This kit includes a marked jar, a rubber band with marked dates/times, a lid, a cheesecloth top, a spatula, a simple card thermometer, and a cleaning sponge. Here's the thing... I've never done a sourdough in my life and it doesn't come with any instructions or documentation at all. It's just these items and that's that. Definitely not a good kit or gift for someone who doesn't have a clue what they're even looking at. Doesn't even have marketing images or a name or anything. So, if you know what you're doing, this could be good?
