Fixed a persistent handlebar creak
I had a maddening creaking coming from the handlebar area of a Santa Cruz Bronson C. Several times I tried remounting and tightening the handlebar stem. The creaking would stop, but would be back by the middle of the next ride. I bought the Race Face Aeffect R stem as a replacement. Creaking is completely gone, and still gone after my first long, technical ride. I'm very pleased, feels like I got a new bike!One complaint: The only place the bolt torques are documented, apparently anywhere in the world, is on the inside of the stem. I followed the installation instructions, which start with mounting the stem on the bike. In my case it was a tight friction fit that took some work. Later the instructions say tighten to the torque specifications, without saying what the torque is. Unfortunately, taking the stem off the bike to look inside it would be be a pain at this point. No specs on the Race Face web site. Or on any forums or videos I could find. Doh! I finally found the needed number - by zooming in on a product photo on Amazon. It would be really nice if they would document the torques in the instructions.
