superior brace for highly active people.
Insightful Products is a great company and they stand by their products. I am a younger athlete and work as a PT for neurological rehab. I acquired foot drop after surgery in 2011 and I have used this product only after trying several variations ranging from thermoplastics to carbon fiber. This is the best brace for me as I do a lot of walking and wanted enough support to help clear my foot, but enough range of motion to still be able to squat, lunge, and perform higher level balance that is often very limited with any other AFOs for drop foot. I also have put this brace to the test, hiking through Grand Canyon, Arches, and Zion National Parks on highly uneven and graded terrain. It usually lasts me a year before the tensors get a bit too stretched out and I get less dorsiflexion of my foot, although I still prefer it more than any other brace. The one time I had an issue with the tensors shortly after obtaining the brace, the company offered to replace the product without any additional charge. I highly recommend this product for optimal gait kinematics and for increased ankle ROM while still getting adequate dorsiflexion.

You're onto something here
I bought this to replace my tall brace that has full under foot coverage. It's a great brace but doesn't allow my toes to bend. This brace, although kind of looks mechanical in the back a bit, offers my foot stability but also allows my foot to move. I have peripheral neuropathy with foot drop from a dislocated hip due to a motorcycle accident. I'm a woman who likes to wear boots on occasion so my other brace will need to be used for that. But this firs into a wide sneaker and is someone comfortable. The plastic is a little thick. My other brace is carbon fiber and much thinner. Ut for the price, although a little expensive for plastic, does a surprisingly good job.

Negative stars
I so wanted this to be an alternative to the custom made AFO I’ve had for years. I was looking for something a little less bulky. I never had any delusions this would be equal to the custom AFO I have.I read the pamphlet that came with it and followed the instructions. After only an hour the pressure on the back of my calf was very uncomfortable, the open heel caused my ankle bone to rub on the edge and hurt and my arch area hurts from the platform pushing on it. Besides those issues is the cost for the quality. The strap that goes around your calf is a stretchy soft band, that’s the only thing I liked, the band is held to the device by a piece of super sticky backed Velcro which could pull off and the only thing holding the calf and foot pieces together is the material that lines the inside of the calf piece. Do waste your time or money on an overly priced piece of junk.

Great support and flexibility
I have had 3 of these braces over the past 8 years. They give great support and offer flexibility to keep ankle movement and allow for kneeling / bending with ease. I can ride a bike with it. My only fault would be is that every couple years or so the outside support cracks. The brace is easily affordable and much nicer than the actually orthotic device I was placed into that did not bend and required me to buy 2 different shoe sizes to accommodate. My prescription orthotic still costed over 500.00 out of pocket in addition to what the unsurance paid and I don't wear it as it is heavy and bulky and the cost of 2 shoe sizes makes it unaffordable. I am much happier with the step smart!RailliD

Helps to walk with drop foot.
This afo is very comfortable and has several adjustments . Very good customer service and videos to assist. The back is hinged and has 3 different strength adjusters included. I use with my Mary Janes so easy to get on. I think "Billy" shoes would also be easy to use with this brace. Very sturdy and helps with my drop foot. Reasonable price. Only thing I wish is for them to come in beige color.

Fair support, but with chafing
I bought this in hopes to be able to start running again after dealing with progressively worsening drop foot. Unfortunately, after ~30 minute walk I got pretty bad chafing on my inner ankle. Additionally, the foot plate does not extend the entirety of the foot, so it places a fair amount of pressure on the middle aspect of the bottom of your foot. If someone is just looking for improvement with foot clearance during short distance walking I anticipate this would provide adequate support, but is not comfortable enough for longer distance walks/hikes or running.

Very versatile AFO, Holds up well over time
I love this AFO! I have one for each foot, and have been wearing my first one for over a year, with almost no signs of wear. The velcro has held up perfectly, as have the jacob joint elastomers, two things I thought might deteriorate quickly. As the information says, it's important to ease into wearing it, as it takes some adjustment the same as other orthotics. When I first wore it, it felt strange to have something pressing on the back of my calf, and I thought it was moving around too much at first, but I quickly got used to the feel and the level of support it gives. Wearing insoles over the top of the heel cup is also helpful for added comfort.Unlike my rigid carbon fiber AFOs, I have much more ankle movement, and am able to squat down, do lunges, and go down stairs with very little trouble, all while preventing foot drop. I also appreciate that many parts of the brace are replaceable when they do wear out through the seller's (Insightful Products) website if not on amazon.
