Not a Pro
I am a homeowner who likes to do basic things for myself. I got this to make basic home tasks, such as hanging pictures and shelves, easier. This is the first stud finder that I have used, so I don't have a comparison. I found the instructions to be a little clunky; the pictures actually were more helpful to me than the written instructions. The operation of the device is fairly simple once you get used to it. The calibration step was quick enough to not be annoying to me, but I got inconsistent readings, even when repeatedly scanning the same sections of wall. One place where I needed to place a nail or wall anchor gave a clear indication for the center of a stud, but when I placed my nail, it was only drywall. It wasn't a big deal, I simply placed a wall anchor and screw instead, but the stakes for error weren't high. I would not want a similar error if I was trying to detect electrical wires. With this being said, this should continue to meet my basic needs for project around my home.

Hits The Mark
No problems with drywall but plaster and wire mesh could be challenging

it reads differently every time
Every time i check a certain spot, it gives different location of the stud center and edges. Just frustrating even more

Stud finders have come a long way – better
I’ve done a lot of construction and remodeling work over the past 40 years. Much of it was on my own homes, but there were several commercial builds scattered in there as well. Now I’m a pretty hard-core U.S. made tool guy, and I’ve been very loyal to my 25 year old Gen. 1 electronic stud finder. But when I saw this one, I decided “what the heck, go for it!” After 20 plus years, old faithful was getting a bit dodgy and I was sure that massive advances must have occurred in Stud Finders… Here’s what I found about the Povien TH350.Pros:Bright easy to ready displaySelf-contained – no charging station, no accessories to keep up withFinds center, not just edge of the stud – saving steps and accurate enough to trustMultiple feature finder - studs, copper, iron, etc.Calibration holds when moved off wall**Device can successfully differentiate 1” furring strips installed on double-thick walls (i.e. sheet rock/furring strip/block or brick)Electrical find feature is useful***Pipe-find feature works very well, differentiates between copper and iron with an indicator, and depth distances seem reliably accurate (within reason)Dedicated function buttons for each key function, not multifunction layered and nested functions. This is a big plus, and more than offsets the slightly slow calibration feature.Sensible, environmentally friendly minimalist packagingCons:Hard plastic case seems brittle and fragileThis tool seems better suited for an interior decorator deciding if pictures can go somewhere, or perhaps an A/V tech installing wall mounts, or a design engineer, architect or contractor doing a walk-through of an existing space to make initial assessments. The tool seems a little large, which on occasion hinders it’s ability to fit into tight spaces (i.e. around fixtures when seeking pipes in a shower area, for example)Calibration procedure is a little slow – but not terribleCalibration hold can fool the user if user is not cognizant of it’s limitationsElectrical wiring find feature must be used with caution and wisdom. It is suggestive, not determinative.ConclusionThe Povien TH350 is a neat little gadget, and well suited for my purposes. It probably won’t survive getting tossed into the bottom of a carpenter’s truck toolbox, but for an A/V tech, interior decorator, weekend remodeler or contracting professional doing initial assessments, it’s a good choice. It is reasonably professional looking, easy to operate without the manual, has a bright clear display and has buttons for each key function.Device dimensions:Length: 6.925 inchesWidth: 2.875 inchesThickness: 1.290 inchesWeight: 6.7 oz., with batteryCountry of Origin: China

Quickly figured out how to use this right out of the box. It is very good at finding stud edges!
I had to make an access panel in a bedroom, to get to the bathtub pipes in the adjacent bathroom. This stud finder worked great for locating the wood studs. After cutting the drywall, and seeing the studs for myself, the tool was spot on. They were exactly where it thought they were. Couldn't be happier.

Great stud finder only ok wire finder
Huge upgrade from our previous stud finder. Heavy duty and feels substantial. This stud finder was very helpful hanging the new pictures in our hallway, made the job very easy. Rated only 4 stars because the wire finder function did not work all the time. When using the wire finder on a wall we built it did not pick up wire we knew were there. For that reason I would not depend on the stud finder to accurately locate wires. The accuracy for finding the center of studs is great.

An affordable alternative to the name brands
Affordable option for a budget oriented user. Sensitive through think walls mainly sheetrock and paneling. Scanner is made out of plastic with a rubber bottom. Please make sure to set thickness of stud before using. It does not sense center properly without setting proper thickness. As for durability, not as sturdy as other name brands but at price range, you can't go wrong.

This one works
We live in a 100+ year old house with thick plaster and lathe walls. I have looked everywhere for a stud finder that would work through these walls and this one works. It may not be durable enough for everyday use in a contractor’s tool belt but looks like it will last a long time in my basement miscellaneous tool drawer
