Bud ABBOTT & Lou COSTELLO Meet CAPTAIN KIDD 1952/color/70 min./DVD-RAs a collector, buyer and seller of 16mm film prints over the years, this was A&C's rarest film. You could only get a good b&w dupe print. I sold an original early 80s VHS tape, released briefly, for over $60.00 just a few years ago.So this is a welcome rarity indeed. Crisp, sharp image, good color (It was actually a type of Technicolor that would fade over time. Warner apparently found and used the original negative. It's re-mastered, and it shows from 1st frame to last. Great cast and is the funniest A&C film ever made. The routines between Lou and Charles Laughton is funny stuff. Laughton took on the role, making the most of his part, having a blast in the cast, brilliantly acting as foil. Kidd tries to turn Lou into a "real" pirate, as each tries to top each other. Supported by blonde beauty piratess, Hillary Brooke.Now, if it just weren't for those LOUSY songs, this would not be the way underrated picture it is often reviewed as.Should have used good song writers and fired these, who are revealed during opening titles. And should have added about 10 more minutes. Made longer because, if nothing else, you could shave off that dreadful music. Actually, some of it is, well, not too bad. A chorus of table dancing, pirate beauties bolsters one number during the bar scene.Being an A&C film, having music is what made a number of them more popular. But although the Andrew Sisters cannot be found here, it's still a classic.The DVD-R disc is excellent quality, bright and sharply designed disc art and Warner Bros. stamped cover.The best color film they ever made is now available, featuring a sharp, clear picture, color and sound. HIGHLY recommended DVD addition! A++++++++++++

I love a good movie that has pirates and humor. DVD played, no problems.

Shipping was prompt on my order and arrived safely with the DVD wrapped in cellophane. This movie is not part of the Universal studios collection and I was so happy to have found it. Charles Laughton recreates his role as Captain Kidd and really enjoyed having fun with the comic duo as I watched the origin of some of Abbott and Costello routines that would later appear on their TV show.Hillary Brooke is at her best as Captain Bonnie. She would later go on to co star in their TV series. The movie isn't indexed but can be enjoyed in one sitting since it is 70 minutes long. Definitely a must for Abbott and Costello fans.

A & C are virtually up to par. So is Charles L. A very thin plot waters it down. But as an A & C fan I welcome this to my collection. That makes it worth the cost.

so funny

A colourful musical...with Bud and lou with their slap stick and flawless comedy timing. Some funny sketches thrown in, You can see that Charles Laughton himself enjoyed starring in this film. I remember seeing the movie, as a young lad taken to the cinema by my late parents. The old cinema in town has been demolised long since - but the films live on, its great to know that comedy movies such as this, are preserved/restored and saved for future generations...viewing on large screen TVs and DVD technology.

Purchased for an elderly gentleman friend.He is very pleased with it.Perfect condition .Recommend product.
