There is a small on off switch under the lid so you do not have to remove the batteries. Totally useless box but still fun to keep you entertained

A great novelty with attitude. The only drawback is that it doesn't really stay turned off, which after a while just gets annoying. If it had, say, a timer or some other indication that would completely turn it off after a while of being left alone it would be worthy of 5 stars.As it is, because it won't just shut down completely as I believe it should, it's really only worthy of 3 1/2 stars, rounded up to 4.In order for you to stop it completely you must dislodge one of the three (3) AAA batteries that it doesn't come with.Box is all real wood with nice old looking hinges and clasps. Comes from China well packed in a complete styrofoam case inside a cardboard box that keeps this fun conversation piece from any damage prior to arriving at your doorstep.

I bought this for an engineering friend of mine and my husband and I played with it so much we ended up keeping it for ourselves. Very well built, works great, and is quite entertaining. I plan on buying a few more to send as gifts.

Once I got the box, I put the batteries in and it worked for probably 10 mins (total).It stopped working halfway through 'the peeking' stage, and now its stuck there. I've tried swapping batteries and made sure they are all in securely. Doesn't work. The box I got is truly useless.

Mine doesn't shut off either. I glad to find out about the switch inside. I wish the ad had informed you that it comes from China. It doesn't.

constantly malfunctions

It was as nice as what i expected. It is gift and I didn't want it to look cheap. Definitely not cheap looking and came packaged well
