American Horror Story: Roanoke

The way it was presented definitely gave it a realistic horror.Cant wait for Season 7
So I keep seeing people complain about "dramatic acting" obviously you can't appreciate what Ryan Murphy was going for. I mean come on people, all of those ghost shows have those cheesy re-enactments. It fits with the plot. Duh.I thought it was a great season for AHS. I loved all the easter eggs, the returning cast (Gaga!), and definitely the jump scares.I can't bring myself to give it over 3 stars without Jessica Lang though :( but if you've watched this season, think about it...who could she have played? Most of the roles were minor and she can't be a background character. Plus all the mains were rather young. So i understand.Just a little tip also.To really understand what is going on, you have to BINGE this season. I understand why nobody liked it if they had to wait a week to see what happens next. You cant appreciate this season in that format. Trust me

I really don't get the hype.
Totally different (and not in a good way) from all previous seasons in the sense that there was no intrigue in the story line for me. This has to be the season I liked the least. It was very convoluted in a way that made it seem like the story line was rushed to just say a season was created. It was messy and the acting could have been way better. Way too many irrelevant characters, and in all honesty, a stupid idea for a story all together. It didn't really leave me curious for more after the first, second, or even episode. If anything, I kept hoping that the more time I invested, the more I might come to like it. Wasn't the case at any point, and my boyfriend agreed. Finished it just to say I gave it a fair shot. Crossing my fingers for next season!

A DIFFERENT TAKE ON AMERICAN HORROR STORY THAT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK
I'm a fan of AMERICAN HORROR STORY and the writers always try to push the limits of horror. They took us on a very different and often confusing ride this season. The series starts off in documentary style as the "real" horror victims tell there story as it is re-enacted by actors. OK, it works for a while but then it gets awfully confusing.Matt and Shelby Miller buy a secluded farmhouse for a steal in North Carolina? Why? It turns out to be haunted and all previous occupants have died or disappeared. Soon we learn the mystery of the lost colonists of 1600's Roanoke, Virginia survived and ended up in North Carolina. They "live" to this day to wreak horror and murder any time there is a red moon. There is something majorly horrific and creep about seeing the colonists from a distance with flaming torches coming toward you in the dark.Season 6 does have its moments of pure horror. The series seems to end early but that is only because we enter Part 2 as the actors and "real-life" people are coaxed back to the house for a reality series. Everything is being filmed with hidden cameras and personal cameras. It gets a bit Blair Witch Project at times but at other times the photography is smooth and clear. Then more characters "fans" show up. It sure gets confusing. Who died and who didn't?It goes without saying that part of the allure of American Horror Show is the marvelous cast. We have regulars like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett along with returnees from other series years. It is a fine cast. I just felt lost and often uninterested this season. Not sure if I want to see Season 7 but I am sure I will

They could have....
... at least given props to the Blair Witch Project. This season is nothing more than a plagiarism of that film from almost 20 years ago. I guess the creators thought none of the target audience would be old enough to remember. The creators started out pretty well the first season and some of the seasons were pretty good. Some not so good, but all up to Season 6 were at least watchable to some extent, however the originality just vanished like the colony of Roanoke with this season. It really is the waste of a season and a subject. The Roanoke mystery should have given the writers all the latitude in the world, since we really after all this time have no idea what really happened other than a cryptic "CROATOAN" carved into a tree and some green eyed Indians to show for the vanished settlement. This subject really was a blank canvas for creative minds, but the current writers' lack of originality left us with an uncut diamond. I have seen high school videos better done, and I'm not kidding.

Okay...I Guess...
I have to give them props for trying something new here, and it's a good idea, but there's just a few logic issues that nag at me, like : WHY WOULD YOU GO BACK TO A HOUSE WHERE COLONY GHOSTS TRIED TO MURDER YOU?!?!?!? It would have made more sense if Sidney had some kind of clause in the original contract where they'd get sued to death if they don't come back for season 2."My Roanoke Nightmare" seems about at the level of a TLC Ghost Show and very unlikely to reach the level of popularity that it does in AHS. Unless there was some kind of massive public event that lit up the news, I don't see how people could be interested in a story that people have been recycling for years in different ways (Haunting in Connecticut, Ouija, Murder House, etc.). Side note: Why aren't there family and loved ones looking for Cricket, Diana, and the many other people who disappeared around that house?Hopefully the final episode will provide some kind of payoff for this wanton murder fest, because it seems like this story kind of lost its way. Luckily there's still time.

Love AHS, but not "Roanoke"
I have loved the AHS series, with "Asylum" and "Hotel" being my favorites. I don't have FX channel and got tired of waiting for "Roanoke" to come out in streaming, so I finally bought it. I started watching but after only a few episodes completely lost interest. For me, this is the worst season. I also recently bought "Cult", binged it 2x, and would rank it as one of the good ones, too.Love the recurring actors: Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Chloe Sevigny, Lady Gaga, Lily Rabe, Finn Wittrock, Mare Winningham, Angela Bassett! Hope to see Jessica Lange, Dylan McDermott and Wes Bentley again soon!

One of the best ones since the Asylum
I see each season when it's on but this is probably the weakest one. I get them each year for my daughter, she was less than impressed. Wait and buy Season 7, One of the best ones since the Asylum.

AHS does found footage
This is a much darker less glamorous season, featuring ancient evil in the woods, human sacrifice and cannibalism; oh, and some of the worst British accents ever recorded. Personally I like the 10 episode format. There are times, in previous seasons, that I found the sub-plots getting in the way of the main story and this keeps it more focused. There's certainly more than a nod to the Blair Witch Project and I suppose if you're not a fan of that sort of style you won't like this. There's a bit of plot and dialogue in there, especially towards the end, that keeps it a meta critique of reality TV, but is it all a bit too clever for it's own good?

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a great series with great actors
Delivered right on time. One of the other reviews said they didn't care for this season. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a great series with great actors. The stories are always intriguing & surprising & I enjoy seeing the same actors in different roles. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the AHS series.

I love Kathy Bates but I found the changing Scottish/ Yorkshire ...
Not sure whether Kathy Bates' awful (supposedly) Scottish accent was intentional? There are a few theories out there. I love Kathy Bates but I found the changing Scottish/ Yorkshire accent quite distracting at times. That said, the series is still disturbing, and I still enjoyed it immensely.

Brilliant!
Brilliant. Ignore the doubters and downers. A spoof of paranormal witness. And a brilliant one. Those who dislike simply dont understand the “paranormal witness” format clearly - One of my favorite ahs. -And the supposed bad english accents are supposed to be ‘twisted’ versions as olde english/american accents were hence why its set in usa! And not uk. Doh!
