Sangean ANT-100 External Antenna

The antenna significantly improves reception of weather broadcasts in my 12th floor apartment in midtown Toronto.

I had purchased this Sangean ANT-100 External Antenna to pick up other NOAA weather stations that are from out of my range and I am very impressed on my reception. So much depends on the atmosphere carrying the radio signals but 100% of the time this antenna really works! I have this antenna mounted on my 60 foot weather tower that I had built for my weather equipment and for other items. I used a quad shielded coax cable (from my Sangean CL-100 Table-Top Weather Hazard Alert) and used two adapters to convert the RCA phono plug to an "F" connector so I can use it to connect to the coax cable (on both ends) to the radio and the antenna.It was worth me spending "a little extra" in order to get the other weather stations nearby. Sometimes our weather maybe off the air so the other weather station is 45 miles away, I am able to pick it up all day and night...without the antenna I would not be able to receive the station!Here's my hint: I have read (from the other comments) that on this particular antenna the wire may pull out from the bottom section (magnetic area) but if you mount this outside I would recommend to add a strong weather proof sealant (or concrete glue to secure the wire (if you wanted to). I did it because I have mine mounted 55 feet in the air so I just took that extra step to protect the wire from the harsh elements!!!

I'm using this with a Midland WR-400 weather radio indoors and it has made a dramatic improvement over the built-in telescoping antenna. Plugs in directly to the external antenna RCA style plug on the WR-400 and instantly improved reception for me, based on where I have it placed in my home. Prior to using this antenna, I struggled to receive the local weather channel, and after, the reception is way better with minimal static (still some static but the broadcasts are pretty clear and it may be my radio). The base is small on the antenna, but it is magnetic so will stick to metal surfaces with no additional mounting. I'm pleased with the performance of this antenna and think it is worth the investment if you have marginal indoor weather channel reception.
