Customer Service
We bought this for our 8 year old boy. It is a bit bulky, but he loves it. I followed the instructions exactly. it worked for the first 2 charges. On the 3rd, the battery died even though I charged over 12 hrs. The batter had no juice. It was making a chirping sound, then died completely. Of course, all this happened, 2 days after my return window. I called amazon. They were super understanding. She offered to send me a free battery first. If that does not work, she offered me the opportunity to return. She told me she made a note in my account so I would be able to return later. So far, I have not had a chance to try the new battery out, but super happy with the service I received.

Great little unit.
We purchased this for our 7 year old grandson to use in our (large) pool. It has been a smash success so far. It should be great for learning to use a snorkel with, before he has a chance to get out in open water. Our only issue so far relate to the battery charging and installation. It would be quite helpful if the instructions suggested proper routing for the battery's wires. Also, the battery takes much longer to charge than suggested in the manual- 12 to 16 hours for us before the green light illuminates on the charger. The seal on the cover has been flawless.

Yama-ha more like Yama-Cry
For what this thing costs, and it being a Yamaha brand item, I had wayyyyy higher expectations performance wise. Other than the housing for the battery being somewhat decent quality the rest of the machine, and its performance (or lack there of) ranks in the cheap-o pool toy catagory.Honestly if the name brand was removed from it, It's literally something that I would assume was picked up in the toy section for $50. Definitely not $400 worth of fun.My kid weighs like 55 pounds or so, and he could easily swim faster than the speed it was pulling him around the pool. He used it for maybe 15 minutes, then had zero interest as it was boring, slow, awkward, and heavy.Immediately I said "this thing is getting returned for a refund, what a joke". Item was packaged back up and returned (I paid the $60 return shipping so I wouldn't have to wait around on UPS to pickup as it requires you to be present at pickup if you choose Free return shipping.) Well worth it, good riddance. Amazon issued refund.Took the refund and put it towards buying a Subblue Mix water scooter. It cost about $100 more, but worth every penny. It's everything the Yamaha isn't, super fast, super fun.I weigh 205 pounds and it pulls me around the pool very quickly. So fun for kids and Adults. Not trying to bash the Yamaha one, but the truth is the truth. My only guess for the good reviews is that they didn't have anything to compare it to, or their expectations were not very high to start with.

The batteries didn't come home on our return flight!
My kids had enjoyed these scooters (we bought 2) in our swimming pool. When we went to Punta Cana, they wanted to take them along. I also wanted to try them in the ocean. We flew business class, so the extra luggage was not an issue. However, the batteries were problematic. First, the American Airlines counter staff asked me to remove the batteries from the scooters even when I told them they weren't the lithium kind. I took them out anyway. Then they told me I couldn't take the batteries as carry-on because they have acid inside! After a long negotiation and looking up info on line, they finally deferred the decision to TSA. TSA didn't have any problems. Phew! The kids had fun with the scooters at the pool in Punta Cana. I didn't get to use them in the ocean because the waves were too rough. On our return flight, the security agents in Dominican Republic categorically told me I could not bring the batteries on the plane. I could not argue with them b/c they didn't speak English. I let them keep my batteries. Now I am finding out it will cost me $238 + tax to replace the batteries! My fantasy of scootering around tropical fishes is shot! It's not with the hassle to fly with them again.

Not the best for long journeys.
Best to bring an extra battery. You can get very far from shore with one battery. Then you are too far to swim back. Runs three miles in calm waters. Wear a life jacket, make sure you have an emergency signal device and a fire extinguisher.

My 10 year old LOVES it!
I was very impressed with this item's performance. Yes, it's pricy, has the name Yamaha so of course, and it's a very niche type of product so it is to be expected. That said, first charge took around 6 hours for the battery, then we slapped on the rubber seal and slathered it with the included silicone sealant and he was off and this was off to the races! I was impressed as it could drag my 180 pound self pretty well, and of course flew my 10 year old all over the pool. Hope it lasts, 'cause this gave about an hour or so worth of runtime/use between swapping between users and the kiddo getting his water scooter seal legs. All and all, I may have to get another battery for this bad boy 'cause it's pretty fun!

Trigger doesn’t work
The kids love it and it works great in our pool. I have it three stars because the trigger mechanism doesn’t work sometimes. When you pull both triggers, the power hesitates and then slowly ramps up which is nice. However, sometimes it does not come on at all and I have to release it and then activate it again for it to work. Sometimes it takes several tries to get it to work.

Long battery life.
I weight 205 and this easily pulled me through the water with ease. It was perfect for snorkeling. We took a 10'-12' hobby cat out with 5 adults and had no wind to get back so the last 200' this pushed us back in. Did not scare fish at all. Long battery life. Just be sure to at least charge it every 3 months or the battery could be ruined.
