Not a Happy Family: A Novel

Shari Lapeno is an excellent author who gets you hooked on Page 1. This is the second book of hers that I’ve read and can’t wait to read them all!

So very well written; this story had me hooked til the very last sentence. Money is the route of all evil. The siblings in this drama don’t know who’s to blame for their parents’ murder. How’s the estate divided up…what surprises are in store for all in this family circle.

Excellent story!!!

There were like 12 characters and the perspective of the narrator changed do each person throughout the book. I felt like I was watching a sporting event, watching a ball volley back and forth.

This is an intriguing story. Money motivates people. Lack of respect and cruelty motivate people. Some traits run in families, either imitated or inherited. Here we have a really wealthy couple, whose spoiled kids are not respected and are treated cruelly. Who done it? The kids try to pull together, but come to suspect each other. The writing is clear and concise. It’s a simple plot with many twists as we learn. I enjoyed it.

This book is cleanly written, and was interesting to read. It uses various narrators, and I like that; I like getting in people’s heads. I had to reread the last 20 pages a couple of times in order to understand what happened; I was going too fast to absorb it all, and probably not paying attention. A good book, well constructed and hard to put down. Recommended.

First time with author. This author knows how to keep you engaged. Great plot with interesting and complex characters. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
