Star Wars Rebels: The Complete Season Three

Three to get ready...
You get a lot in this season. Ezra's power in the force grows, but his tendencies towards accepting the dark side cause him and the Ghost crew some issues that are essential for character development. Sabine's back story finally gets flushed out and she begins to confront her own destiny. But to be honest, the best part of this season is THRAWN. I wish he would've been a bit more imposing in voice, but his presence and action in all the episodes does proud the creation from Timothy Zahn's books. As ruthless as Vader, but calculating and utterly patient, he shows very well in the series why he became grand admiral. He sees victory in increments as he is aware the campaign to crush the rebellion is a slow one. I also like how a lot of Ralph McQuarrie's designs are used throughout the show, like the precursors to droids and combat vehicles that will someday be seen in the original trilogy, paying homage to one of the visionaries that helped breathe life into this sci-fi giant. You get a LOT of explanation about how the rebellion grew, organized, and acquired personnel and materiel for their war effort. Several times in this season you see the characters risking all for gains unseen, and the culmination to a large battle scene did not disappoint. You also see a few more faces in the Empire and the development of the TIE Defender, the induction of some of the rebellion's most crucial members, and that's all I'll say for now.Oh did I mention there's plenty of Mandalorian jetpack combat?

Show keeps getting better and better.
This show started out sort of childish in the first season, but has progressed to very adult themes as it went on. I believe this show has better writing than the Clone Wars cartoon show. I know the Clone Wars is a beloved show and I like it as well, but Rebels has a very different vibe to it that I believe allows it to expand on the darkness of the galaxy more than TCW. We all know how the Clone Wars ended so the characters in it you know would always survive, and those that didn't. Rebels has new characters with the old, so even though you know the framework of the overall story, the new character arcs are more intriguing. We all know what happens to Anakin, but what about Ashoka? These questions made the show more interesting to me than TCW. Anyone who complains about the animation has no knowledge of the true purpose why Rebels was made that way. The galaxy is not in its prime and neither are the vehicles just like the original trilogy. It is made like that on purpose. Overall this series kept me hooked and I am highly interested if some of these characters make it to the big screen. (Not counting the brief cameo of the Ghost and Chopper in Rogue One).

Season 3: Thrawn & Maul
I thought this was a really solid season, it had some episodes that weren't as interesting as others, but overall, it's really enjoyable for a SW fan. I imagine binge watching these is more enjoyable than watching week-by-week, probably helps with the "filler" episodes. That said, the inclusion of Thrawn of this season was amazing. Dave Filoni & Co, really nailed the character. His mannerisms, his ideals, his actions all match the Thrawn we know and love. And the voice actor for Thrawn couldn't be any more perfect! Also we get a little bit more of Darth Maul, and, as always, Sam Witwer absolutely kills it with his voice acting with Maul. "KENOBIIIIIIIIII!!!!!" I'll keep the review short, but the season was great and I'm absolutely hyped for Season 4. Shame it's the last one, but I can't wait to see what else Dave Filoni & Co have up their sleeves for future projects!

There were some good story arcs
Season Three showed a continued improvement in the animation quality of SW Rebels. There were some good story arcs, especially the ones concerning Maul and his showdown with Obi-Wan. This season also introduced Grand Admiral Thrawn, famous from the Heir to the Empire trilogy of books, now part of SW Legends. So far, the just-begun Season Four is picking up where this one leaves off and it looks like maybe the best thus far.

Great show, great season, very good presentation
I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. Picture and sound are generally very good, if not always perfect. The show itself is a wonderful addition to canon, and this is a strong season, featuring two of my favorite episodes: "Double Agent Droid," which has a unique tone for Star Wars, with a couple of brilliantly unexpected laughs and some of the best extended scenes of droid humor since Ep. IV; and "Twin Suns," a haunting conclusion to the Darth Maul saga.

Emotional, in good and bad ways.
I said season 2 was part ESB, but this season is almost ALL Empire in tone. Some amazing things and arcs occur in this season, including an excellent, Alec Guiness-esque voice for Obi-Wan. Grand Admiral Thrawn, a beloved villain from Legends, makes his debut in the canon universe, and boy does he make an impression. Love this season, just like the others.

Growth
Love this series, then I love most things STAR WARS. This series really adds to the movies. This season was all about character growth. Every character (rebel) characters comes out of this season better then the were in the first season. Then there are reckonings for other characters. The only character I think was not done as well in this series was Grand Admiral Thrawn. They managed to cover his brilliance, and later his warrior attitude/skills, but for me they made his a little too cold. In the books though he serves the Empire he seems to have his own agenda, and usually reserves killing as the last option. Here he seems to be an Imperial through and through. I did like his warrior side being shown more in the later episodes, and his leading from the front in the ground assault. The real great thing about this series is the way it ties into the other Star Wars movies, and media. For people like me how love this stuff this is pure gold. Usually I don't bother with the bonus but I have to say I actually enjoy all of them on this DVD.

Pretty Good, barring a couple of things
The main reason this is getting a 4 star is because the sound quality is low, especially with the voice overs.Grand Admiral Thrawn makes his first on screen appearance, being a fan of the character from Legends I can say he is cool, if not a typical villain type for the show, other characters such Governor Price from the Thrawn novel and a younger Wedge appear as well as Colonel Yularen from The Clone Wars, Maul of course returns as well as an appearance from Obi-Wan Kenobi. A new character called The Bendu is in several episodes, voiced by Dr Who's Tom Baker.I can admit that the inclusion of some new and old characters is great I was less invested with some of the story this time around than season 1 and 2, but other than that and the low sound quality, it was still enjoyable to watch and I am glad that the next season is the last, as not to stretch this out for too long

Great Series, but disc 3 wouldn't play
I bought this Blu-ray and series 4 for my son's recent birthday. He loves Star Wars Rebels and eagerly starting watching back to back episodes using the X Box One X in our living room. Discs 1 and 2 were fine but disc 3 would not play at all. We cleaned the disc, restarted the X box etc. but it still wouldn't play. We have an older X box in my son's room and tried the disc on this and it worked fine. Strange. The only difference between the two set ups is that the X box in the living room is connected to the TV via a sound bar whereas the one in my son's room is connected directly to the TV. Looking online it seems that the issue may be some sort of security on the disc which is prohibiting it's use on a set up where the blu-ray player isn't directly connected to the TV. I don't pretend to understand why but it seems odd that two of the three discs play (i.e. do not have this additional layer of security) but the third does not. Frustrating (and docked a star because of it) but not the end of the world.Looking forward to watching Series 4 now which, fingers crossed, will play in the living room otherwise the four of us will be cosied up on my son's bed watching it in his room again!

Rebels goes up two gears!
Disappointly Season 3 jumps ahead passed the ending of Season 2 so much that the two are not really linked in their ending and beginning at all. That said, I believe Disney was already aware at the time that Rebels needed to start to come to a close and tie the story into the original trilogy as best it could. Many of the franchise's heroes make an appearance once again in Season 3 as the Rebels continue to fight the Empire and try to recruit more support for their Rebellion. However dark times lay ahead as Season 3 introduces an Iconic and Legendary character from the old canon. One that haunts the rebels throughout the season finishing up with a spectacular closing of the season.Unfortunately one of the storylines is brought to a close during the season ending a much loved character in Star Wars. That said, it should be expected as the time draws closer to A New Hope, and Rogue One (which was filmed during the making of this season) and the characters need to start to match those of the films.

More satisfying than the new trilogy
Excellent series, very true to the original Star Wars series. Our kids love Ezra Bridger and Sabine and appreciate how they are now a little older and how they evolved as characters. Thrawn is more my personal favourite, or perhaps agent Kallus and the intrigue surrounding him. Not sure whether this season is better than season 2, but its is better paced. The only thing I was longing for was an all-powerful Rebel crush by Thrawn. But we might have to wait for that.Visually and in terms our scenes this season looks perhaps better than the previous ones. Really glad to have watched it on Blu ray.Great for the whole family.
