it's worth the price
I find this to be well worth the price paid. A couple bucks and a little time will improve the performance of this device. For the whiners:Trip to the hardware store for some lock nuts to replace the non lock nuts solved the often referred to problem of this falling apart. A china marker( AKA grease pencil ) works better than a dry erase marker. If the message board falls away from the clapper either gorilla glue or house hold caulk will fix the problem. for Pete's sake this is only a few bucks for a Clapboard.

Very Unique, Colorful, Fun and Functional Clapboard
Great Clapboard. I bought this for the budding movie director in my family. The board was going to be part of a gift basket with a bunch of movie/film related items, but it was so smart and attractive looking that I decided to wrap and present it separately. It is a very good sized, construction is sturdy and the white dry erase board is very unique and fun. The clapper works great and the non traditional colors along the top really make the board pop. Writing on the board with dry erase markers is a breeze and very easy to erase. The board is functional and fun and makes a great gift for anyone interested in film, directing, entertainment, etc.

Won 't erase
This works well the first time you use it. Wipe off the erasable;e whiteboard marker and you will see... every scene you've ever shot will still be there. The material from which the board is made does not allow the marker to wipe away. I tried alcohol - bad choice - that takes off the black graphics fro.m the maker. This is better used as a prop or a gift than a practical clapboard- unless you don't mind the mess and slop of a board that won't erase. I would have a neutral recommendation on this - it totally depends on your use. Yes to gift and props - NO underlined and bolded -= if you plan to use it as an actual working, erasable clapboard. You will likely quickly become frustrated and that can ruin the scene!!

Reinforce it - Right out of the box
Yes, this is a CHEAP slate, but it will do the job and do the job well. If you go to a Grip shop, you can pay way more for this exact same slate! The order arrived on time, is the correct size for professional shoots, and is better quality than I expected for the price. Everything is right!! If you're in film, this slate will not let you down.IF YOU FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULESReinforce the nuts on the moving parts RIGHT NOW. Tape them, soldier them, spot weld them. Anything you need to do to make sure the bolts aren't loose. If you don't doctor the bolts, they WILL FALL OUT!2: Get WHITE 1/2 inch gaffer tape. Write on the gaffer tape in permanent ink for Production, Director, Camera, and Date. Avoid writing directly on the slate for any field other than ROLL, SCENE, and TAKE.3: Keep it in the box. It will last infinitely longer in the box. But, in the end, you get what you pay for. This will not last forever.

Perfect for the beginner movie director
Purchased this for my son who is a movie fanatic and actually makes his own movies at home. He said it was much better than the chalk board one we got him a few years ago and has been using it constantly! Very well constructed and should hold up well to constant use.

... have had 2 of these products and they are fine and work well
I have had 2 of these products and they are fine and work well. The only problem I have had with both is that the screw that holds the top part of the clapper fall out because the nut that holds the screw falls out. It happened with both of these clap boards. Once you lose the nut, the screw is next then the product is useless. Finding a screw/nut that i can use as a replacement is a pain.

Good value.
I run a small video production company and this is perfect. Digital slate app can be nice, but they're also dependent on smartphone batteries and sometimes you just need to make a change to the slate on the fly and the old school movie slate does just that. The one little criticism is that the pin on the hinge isn't super strong. So be gentle on them.

Erase doesn't Erase
So disappointed in this Clapboard. For one, the lettering is not engraved/etched, but appears to be silk screened. But worse, writing with a proper dry erase marker, it is VERY difficult to erase...and in spite of best efforts, there is still a ghosting of the original letters. And that erasure is with proper white board cleaning liquid. A felt dry marker eraser requires a lot of heavy work just to get to the ghosting phase.Size and content are good; the three screws/nuts were loose. But the overall functionality with clean erase capability is not there. Not Recommended.Updaate (Mar 2016): I tried two different types of "crayon" markers. While both were easier to erase than the dry erase markers, they still left a ghosting image. The best of the "crayon" markers was the "Sharpie Peel-off China Marker" which was easier to erase than a construction crayon marker. Still 1 star!

Sturdy, authentic
As advertised, my daughter loves it.....too much....she doesn't want to write on it. That said, it is solid, well built and would likely do the trick for beginner film production. I suspect that the one I have, will end up on the wall as a piece of art.

Shoulda ordered the markers with it! But I love this little guy! I’m not shooting anything right now but I have this on my desk and every time I look at it it’s like silently reminding me “yo bro, hurry up!”
