Flats: Technical Drawing for Fashion Paperback – April 7, 2010

A great tool for students and professionals, this book is complete yet concise. Includes hand-drawing techniques as well as Illustrator instruction. Flats are shown next to finished garments to better understand how your sketch translates to 3d. You have all the basic garment shapes but also a visual dictionary of variations that I find can be inspiring for new designs. There is written instruction, but it is also very visual which is great for creative types like myself!The CD-Rom is the icing on the cake: It includes body and garment templates that can be manipulated in Illustrator - a priceless, time-saving resource!

I am currently working on my designs for my collection and this book is what I am currently constantly using ! It's details are massive and gives you exemples of every possible details that can be on a garment shown on a muslin and as a technical sketch I couldn't ask for more. I keep this book very close, defenitly a good buy and a must for those starting out

It's very hard to find a book that clearly illustrates a ton of flats but this book is perfect. It shows both back and front and several different kinds of details. I have dozens of books and this is the only one I will reference for my flats.

I have been wanting this book for a long time, as a pattern maker I found I was lacking the drawing and sketching skill, especially about flats. This book is really useful if you create patterns from figurines or real existing clothes and you need to think about the flat for a while before drawing the pattern. I gave five stars because it deserves it. The book is clear, full of illustrations and details and the CD-ROM included had been really helpful.

this is the book for me and some one dont know how to draw flats!!lots of samples drawing and using real garment as contrast ,gives examples of wrong ones ,,,it;s really helpful

As a fashion student at university this book is extremely helpful, a lot of varying designs that can be adopted, as an added bonus there is a CD ROM meaning you can use the flats as a starting point on Illustrator
