The Woman King [DVD]

Entertaining movie that is slightly based on historical facts
I enjoyed the performances of all of the actors. Although the storyline was mostly fiction, it was powerful. The talk of redemption and powerful female army was uplifting. What I enjoyed most was the after movie conversations. The conversations of what if... What if the tribes fought the Europeans together and blocked the slave trade instead of profiting from selling captives into slavery?

Decent movie. Falls into the current visuals vs substance situation that defines current Hollywood
Decent movie.- It is obviously not based on a real historical story and is almost the opposite of what happened in reality so to claim its based on real events is a huge stretch.- The action scenes are a little over the top for me , but they visually look good. The story was kind of boring at times, but overall not bad.

Nothing special.
This movie was very repetitive and very cheesy at times.Still, Viola Davis is great. The cinematography is good.I don’t understand the hype.I recommend Apocalypto.

Awesome movie
I saw this movie in theaters. It was very entertaining. I was skeptical going in because most movies featuring a “super-powered hero”, or “hero character” have had very poor writing lately. I was very happy to see such great character development from Nanisca (Viola Davis). Watching her face her demons was very touching and inspirational. The movie is sort of like Braveheart or The Patriot. Based loosely on true events, but highly dramatized. The movie felt about 2/4 character development, 1/4 world building and 1/4 action. It’s violent, but not Braveheart violent. I was getting Mulan vibes as well.My biggest complaint without spoiling too much would be the romance plot, which felt more like a sub-plot. I wish we had more time with the love interests, building their relationship, or it was cut altogether. A smaller complaint, I wish the training montage was a bit longer, I felt we needed a bit more to believe how well Nawi was able to excel during training. Felt like she went from 0 to 100 within the span of a Disney song. All the actors were fantastic. Viola Davis shined. She is such a talented actress. Her inner dialogue was moving. John Boyega played an amazing King. Izogie (Lashana Lynch) was one of my favorite characters. The world building was done very well also. I will definitely be buying this movie, it was very entertaining, moving, and action packed.

This is a Epic Historical Movie
"IF" you are educated enough to know the difference between a "DOCUMENTARY" and a movie "INSPIRED by true events", you might be able to enjoy this movie! This movie first did an awesome job with gender balance! In the Dahomey Kingdom the men and women were fighting for same goal. They didn't focus scenes on shallow men needing to be in control and having to be completely in charge. The sisterhood was AMAZING! I am so tired of seeing movies where black women/people are constantly pitted against each other. The leadership that Nanisca, Izogie, Amenza and Nawi demonstrated was beautiful. Not only did they demonstrate beautiful leadership, but they also demonstrated what it looked like to follow leadership. The overarching theme of "if we are ever going to win, we have to win together", validated my reshaped image of unity for my community. Many of us understand that slavery existed and was a way of life in many countries. However, many do not understand that some Africans bought into chattel slavery through European influences. This movie explains how chattel slavery was made possible. When you give this movie a chance, just like we have given other based on true event movies such as Cleopatra, I believe you will find something to take away from this movie!

The best movie I have seen in 3 years!
The Woman King is a must see movie. I took my daughter to see it, then I took my sisters to see it. What a powerful movie to see woman in charge for a change.I love going to the movie theater. I go at least once per month. The Woman King is the best movie of its kind. I thinks it’s better than Amistad, Hidden Figures, and 12 Years a Slave. All said movies have positive messages in them, and they are excellent. Go see all of them for some powerful messages. I am also on Amazon’s Wait List to purchase the 4K version of The Woman King when it is released. Enjoy.

Emotions and action!
Had me in my emotions and on the edge of my seat the entire time!!! Viola Davis is an amazing actress who displayed her character fiercely and yet a woman with a vulnerable past.
