Teeny tiny elf-sized book
Full disclosure...I bought this book because the cover was cute. I’m shallow. what can I say? It is super cute but I did not realize it was going to be pocket size. I’m sure I missed a detail somewhere that would have warned me. If you are a Dickens fan looking for a cute display book for people to thumb through in the bathroom this is an excellent choice. If you plan to read the book cover to adorable cover, either buy this one along with a magnifying glass or just get a bigger book.

A very lovely cute pocket book
This review is for Hard Times (ISBN: 978-1509825431).Very well made book, nice print and bonding, with many lovely black and white illustrations.Great value for a little book. This is one of the books from Macmillan Collector's library, but not all of them have the same printing quality.

I had a 'hard time' reading the small print
This book was beautifully bound and a nice addition to your library, if you're from Lilliput. It was about 4" x 6" and the print was about the same size as I expect to see on the back of a life insurance policy. That was probably in the description, and it's my fault for not looking. It was missing the bottom half of pages 207 and 208 (not cut or torn out, the paper looked like it was just milled that way), and 209/210 was just completely gone.

Not Recommended
I have enjoyed every Dickens book I have read except this one. I felt I was being preached at which i never enjoy but especially as the issues raised a really in the past in many ways. The humour that is so often a feature of Dickens seemed to be lacking although I have read it is present but 'darker'. Sissy and Rachel were pleasant characters but Stephen was not credible and everyone else really not likeable. The plot is thin although this is Dickens so it has its good moments but you have to dig for them

Classic story, classic production!
Hardback, gold-edged, integral bookmark, paper thin crisp and white, type clear - where else will you get all this for the price? It's a joy to hold and read, fits in handbag or pocket, has classic illustrations - and the story, as one of Dickens' - needs no introduction. A terrific buy!

Hard Times is hard going
Not one of Charles Dickens' most charismatic novels, but keep going..take it in small bites and you will be rewarded for perseverence.
