Little Virtues

Excellent book of short stories by a revered native Italian female author from the mid-20th century. Unique perspective on real daily life in Italy during this period. Very unique writer.

For any woman who despises shopping, who wears shoes down to the sole, who gets overwhelmed by options and ends up coming home empty handed and happy... these essays are for you. Ginzburg writes exceptionally well about appreciating what you've got.

I love Ms Gainzburg's choices of subjects and her candor. I've never been a fan of sugar coating things, I like reality over condescending half truths and the author provides exactly that, reality. As far as the beautiful style of writing and choice of words, it is hard to assign credit to the author when there is a translator involved, so both thoughts and words deliver beautiful and weighty prose.

I devoured this book, and I really don't have time for extra-curricular reading right now. But Ginzburg's words, her stories, they just fit into my life right now. Every other page has something underlined, and the simplicity is an illusion that hides such human complexity that I will most likely come back to this book over and over again throughout my life.

The essays Human Relationships and The Little Virtues made the book for me, as they are beautifully written, in a deep and mesmerizing way.

Disappointing. At times I didn't know what she was trying to say and she just meandered.

Loved this book and the fact that it was basically lost to civilization until the New Yorker Magazine rediscovered it.

This was purchased for a language holiday next year - but appealing in its own right.

Insightful and enjoyable. The style and economy in her writing is also apparent in her son’s excellent work. I shall recommend The Little Virtues to family & friends.
