Original Sin Is A Lie: How Spirituality Defies Dogma and Reveals Our True Self

Incredible resource for spiritual seekers
I’ve been a bit of a spiritual seeker, for lack of a better term (explorer? stumbler? whatever…) for a long time. This little search has slanted more towards the mystical/metaphysical side of things vs the scholarly or intellectual (although I honor the depth of that particular lens), mostly because it just endlessly fascinates me. This exploration has amplified a bit in the past few years, and in that time I’ve dabbled in many a book on spirituality, from a wide swath of paths and traditions, trying to find my way with the hope of reaching some form of beacon or lantern in the form of guidance and practice. I am still quite deep in this “search,” no where near an endpoint (if there even is one) and I’ve barely scratched the surface. Anyway, this book right here by Bob Peck is one such lantern, and it’s an incredible read for those who might be interested in or open to such things. Really, really wonderful and powerful stuff in here, and it’s allowed several seemingly lost pieces to click into place for me (and for that I express my sincere gratitude to you and your work, Bob — seriously, thank you). Highly recommend this book, and Bob’s work, if it calls to you. I know it called to me (glad I listened). Cheers.

Excellent.
Peck’s work is scholarly, clear, irreverent and a beautiful breakdown of the mystery. The truest endorsement I can offer is that it deepened my personal relationship with source. Great read.

Fundamentals for Fundamentalists
A deeply insightful and (for me), extremely enlightening read. Bob Peck is a wonderful writer and exercises his intellect without sounding overly intellectual. A University of Texas graduate - Austin, Texas strikes again! Hook ‘Em!

Brilliant, beautiful and full of wisdom.
I first came across Bob on everyone’s favorite social app, Tiktok. Given the title of the book I decided to purchase the writings and see where it went. Being a long time student of Spirituality and Faiths of the world myself, I was interested to see what he had to say about Original Sin. To my surprise, the book was filled with quotes and information I wasn’t expecting lol. I figured it would be a deep theological breakdown of verse by verse proof going deep into the original languages (Hebrew/Aramaic) showing the Title to be true. But to the Dwight of my eyes and to the massage of my mind I found something more beautiful than that. This book will take you deep into the minds of the Masters of the East who have, in my humble opinion, a far greater knowledge of the teachings of Jesus that any Western influenced mind I have ever come across. Yes, he does speak about Sin and the idea of it but through the paint brush of words and through the minds of many Masters, he delivers a masterpiece worthy of a display in the finest of art museums in the world. You will not be disappointed!!!

Are you in Plato’s cave?
It’s a book of good and true information addressed to the world dwelling in Plato’s cave.To any Christians who would or are considering reading this: Bob’s strategy here isn’t to tear down your defense of original sin. He is merely offering his perspective along with offering an alternative to the canonical greek-puritanical-evangelical view.Make no mistake, Bob offers some great arguments but if you’re still an evangelical today, you’re not likely to be convinced. Instead, try to see Bob’s view and truly ask yourself if you think it is more or less in line with what Jesus taught than what your current framework for interpreting scripture. Also, be patient and allow Bob to make his case over the length of the entire book, as there are many, many gems buried in the final 30 pages/10% or so.To those of other faiths and non-faiths, I would just recommend to really pay attention to Bob when he talks about the similarities in the world’s mystic traditions.None of what Bob talks about doctrinally, cosmologically, physiologically, or philosophically is wholly new information. But! The specific information gathered all together in one place (with the hundreds of pain-stakingly researched references) represents most of the value of reading this book and recommending it to others. The other portion of value, say maybe 20-25%, are the auto-biographical stories of Bob. He comes of with the right dose of humility in relaying some lessons he has compiled together from the stories of his life that might be able to help folks be successful on the perennial path.My two complaints with the book is that a few sections of writing were very brief and felt out of place, and the chapter on chakras felt very piece-mealed. IIRC, there was like 2-3 pages of chakra info and then there was another unrelated (although valuable) 2 page story and then the chapter was done. The organization and transitions needed some extra work, whether that means fleshing out more and/or creating new chapters.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in something more out of life. I think the argument presented here will be most effective for ex-Christian’s, progressive Christians, Mormons, and the odd few open-minded agnostic philosophical ponderers. If you’re already fully on-board with perennial thought, mysticism, or Hinduism, I’d recommend getting the kindle version. You may learn a couple of new things and there are still the personal lessons from Bob that are certainly worth reading!

Amazing read! Highly recommended
If you're just getting into spirituality, or even if you've been exploring spirituality for a while, this book has something for you. Very good at showing the thread that connects all of the world's faiths, clearing up a thousands-year-old game of telephone in Christianity, and including so many references and sources of information for you to go further down the rabbit hole. I highly recommend to everyone interested in religion, theology, spirituality! The author is also active on social media, and has been so kind in responding to messages and questions! Blessings all

Glad this book is available
I am enjoying this book and it helpfully ties in so many spiritual matters that I have been exploring and striving to understand. Careful interlinking of the teachings of Jesus, Hinduism and Buddhism. My ‘niggles’ are Christian Mysticism is reduced to only a discussion around historical Gnosticism, rather than an awareness of a Christian (non religious) mysticism that is alive, especially Celtic Christianity which is rich and experiential. Also Coptic Christianity and parts of devotional Catholicism. Maybe that is a cultural blind spot?My other niggle is I’m not sure the book really fully explores ‘original sin is a lie’. Especially considering the damage, separation and shame the doctrine of original sin has caused to many of us. I do feel there is room to go deeper with the discussion on this and rectify this damaging lie. Saying this I do like the book and it offers a lot else, especially explaining Vedic Hinduism concepts.
