Upload program to the board via connecting the USB first, and then connect DFPlayer - A Mini MP3 Player with the hard serial port, otherwise there may be a communication conflict.

Is the 3w speaker rating at 4ohm or 8ohm impedance?

Our previous tests were conducted with an 8ohm 3w specification. We recommend using this specification for optimal results.

Think of RX as listening and TX as speaking. If you connect RX to RX (listening to listening), there is no data being exchanged. You need to connect RX to TX and TX to RX (speaking to listening). Hope this helps.
