Scout Salute: Join Tommy on His First Camping Adventure (Kid's First Experiences)

Well written book, excellent for young children which may be interested in scouting and the outdoors
I am the Cubmaster for my son's Cub Scout pack. The school librarian at the elementary school which my son attends which also happens to be our pack's sponsor, mentioned to me that some kids recently had asked her for books with stories related to scouting. I ordered this book, which has arrived, and I plan to donate to the school. It is a well written book for young kids about a new scout's first camping adventure. It mentions the Cub Scout essentials, scout law and other basic subjects which are covered in the BSA Cub Scout program. The book states that it is not an official BSA publication, but BSA provided feedback and guidance on the use of trademarks. This is a good book to give as a gift to any child which may be interested in scouting as well as any new Cub Scout (Kinder to 3rd grade). I have also encountered parents, many with no scouting experience, who wish to involve their kids in Scouting- I believe this book as a bedtime reading could help serve that purpose. In our pack, I try to take particular attention to new families which may not have had prior camping experience on what they can expect. I will be recommending this book to the parents and help them prepare their kids for their first camping experience with the pack.I also ordered another copy to have on hand for pack meetings.

corrections made
Replying to Ricki, the mistakes you mentioned have been corrected. There is no mention of a knife or troop (the word 'group' is used instead). I thought it was a great book to share with my new cub scout before his first camping trip!

Cute idea, but inaccurate
I purchased this book to read to my Tiger's (1st graders) but decided not to after pre-reading it. It is clearly based on Cub Scouts, the Scout Law and uniforms are pretty accurate. The issue I had was that Tommy (who is in 2nd grade based off of his uniform) brings a pocket knife camping. Cub Scouts are not allowed to use pocket knives before they earn their Whittling Chip in 3rd grade. It also refers to his group as a troop. In the BSA, Cub Scouts belong to a Pack and Scouts BSA belong to a troop. I think if the little mistakes were fixed it would be a great book to read to younger Cub Scouts.
