Insightful Book for Women and Men alike !!!!!
Enjoyed reading this insightful book. It takes you on an analytical journey through bibilical text, explaining the lack of gender of God and its meaning as it relates to the maleness of Jesus. It then relates this to women and how we relate to this to our spirituality. This is a must read if you are struggling with relating to a male dominated church and where do we as women fit into to the picture.

Please Read This Book
Schneiders' book is a must read for anyone interested in feminist readings of scripture. Her case is accessible, well articulated, and displays a thoughtful critique of patriarchy that will challenge any reader without isolating even more conservative theological traditions.

Great Read!
I purchased this book for a theology class. By all means, I am not a "master" in this area. However, I was shocked that this book was SO thought provoking! I think the message extends beyond the Bible-- you can apply it to the partiarchial society that we live in today. Bravo! Well done, well said.

Arguments Presented Weak
"Women and the Word" is a very short work. I read it in one sitting, and while parts of it had value, they were few and far between. Whenever Schneiders presents anything controversial, such as that it is equally valid to refer to God as she instead of he, her arguments fail. She doesn't respond to the common reasons given against her position but takes the time to refute strawman arguments. This book is something that can be skipped.

An amazing book for women
An amazing book for women, actually for everybody, about how the bible and God views women and gives heart and encouragement to feminist women of faith.

Sometimes there's the perfect small book . . .
This little book, written "way back" in 1986 is amazing. It covers virtually all of the major issues involved in viewing God, The Trinity, and Jesus as male. Thereby, it also shows how little these issues have changed and what scant progress has been made in 35 years. Easy to read and understand, it's the perfect book to distribute to anyone, female or male, who is interested in achieving a more Biblically accurate, richer picture of God and Jesus.

Short but wonderful
Can a male saviour save women? This question has been hounding me for a long time. I've read big fat books by Ruether, Elizabeth A. Johnson, Schussler-Fiorenza, but this little gem of a book gave me an answer. It's written in very understandable English, and addresses very tough questions without lapsing into anger (not that anger is wrong, but it gets in the way). Schneiders answers the question "can a male saviour save women?" the answer is YES. Not only that, she shows that in order to do it, G-d >had< to be incarnated in a male, so as to bust patriarchy from the inside. Made a lot of sense to me. I will read all other books by this author.
