The films are great, but the book is even better.
There are a number of films based upon the book and they are very enjoyable, but the book is even better. I cannot wait to read it to my grandchildren.

A treasure from my childhood.
So happy to see this in print again. This was read aloud to me by my fourth grade teacher and I have never forgot how much I enjoyed it. Now I'm reading it to my 8 and 10 year old and they are loving it too. Just enough action, suspense and bad guys to keep them happy. Well written story to make mom happy.

Clearly one of Astrid's Masterpieces.
This is one of Astrid's best books. Published in 1956 and was the contributing factor to her winning the H. C. Andersen Award for the best children's literature of that decade. This book is beautifully written and the story is a great freedom adventure, with a fantastic depiction of a growing friendship and bonding, between the vagabond Oskar and Rasmus. It is a book for children as adults as well, to cherish.Highest recommendations.

Astrid Lindgren's best
Rasmus is a likeable boy stuck in an orphanage because the prospective parents that come always pick the curly haired girls. He runs away and meets a vagabond named Oscar, and then the adventures begin. This book has it all - warmth, humour, danger, excitement, wonderful characters, and an ending that is deeply satisfying. I loved this book as a child and have bought several since as presents for other children. A hardcover edition holds a place of honor on my bookshelf. If you have a heart, you will love this book.
