Q: How do you use the timer function? Is it possible to set these to turn on by themself at a certain time each day?

No. The timer is a countdown timer. If they are on you can set how long they stay on and they will automatically turn off. There is no “turn on” timer.

Q: How many lights can be controlled by one remote? Ex: if I am using 3 sets for a backdrop, but want to got up on 6 at a time, then add another 6.

This remote control has a range of use and can control all the lights in the range.

Q: Can you use this wireless led lights outdoors?

If you do, I would make sure they are out of the elements. Would be great on a covered patio. But I wouldn't put them where rain, or snow or high heat from the sun can get them. They are battery powered and not waterproof.
